Lewis Sugden by Farsley Arkan User: Farsley Arkan

You’ve signed Young Sugden who is another former Celt. I have only seen him play once or twice as sub, so can’t tell you a lot about him. Looked a tidy player. He was q young (teen) then, and used as a squad player, but I think he was decent & rated by our then management. He went to America on a college scholarship for footy. If he’s fresh off the boat so to speak, he’ll be feeling the cold along the wintery Yorks coast. ;¬).

Good to hear about Murray- had he played in the N E Cts for SAfc or the Glue league? Just wondered as he seems to have played at all sorts of levels- 4th div with your faves the Yorkies, FCUM (presumably in the confs 2nd div or our current level), now Tad in your div.

Yes we’ve picked up Cam Murray. I think he’s to be a replacement for ‘Scooby’ Marshall who’s had to retire this wk. He will be a great loss to us as an attacking/goalscoring threat. As much as anyone for us.
I’d be interested in your opinions on him as he lists SAfc as a former club. I don’t recall seeing him play. Is he a ‘in the hole ‘ player - his words. A goal threat?

BTW the reply thing is playing up again so I had to start this thread

who had two spells with us in recent seasons. You’ll enjoy him, but more important for us is him leaving Taddy and going to a team not in our division (phew!) He’ll grab a few goals from midfield

He is a very technical and skilled player and wish we still had him. On the negative side in his later times with us he seemed to disappear up his own backside too often and turn into trouble. He’s fairly quick but a bit lightweight and small but that does not always have to be a bad thing. I hope he does well for you.

Leigh RMI 0-2 Scarborough (8th March 2003) by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

Posted: 14/12/2017 at 17:05:13, 123 views.

I’ve just found a VHS recording of the full match from the Conference match between Leigh RMI and Boro from March 2003. I have just bought a VHS-DVD-PC conversion kit, so will upload the full thing to YouTube (or at least highlights) once it’s done.

It amazes me to this day that the game was on. It rained all the way to Atherton (hey, that rings a bell!) where me and my dad changed on to a bus to Leigh’s Hilton Park ground. A few hundred rattled around inside the cavernous rugby ground in horrendous conditions. Honestly, wait until you see the pitch. Standing water, mud everywhere, the ball sticking completely still when passed. It shouldn’t have been played, yet it was.

Boro’s team that day:

Woods, Shepherd, Holdsworth, Sillah, Hotte, Taylor, Kerr, Stoker, Brassart, Pounder, Cohen.
Subs: Walker, Connell, Fatokun, Dempsey.

Goals on 24 and 45 minutes from Gary Cohen and Cleveland Taylor respectively.

This was the season where we looked destined for a playoff spot on Christmas day, but 6 consecutive defeats starting in January meant that Slade handed his resignation in, then didn’t, then did, then didn’t etc. etc. We eventually finished 7th.

I remember just arriving to the ground and been greeted by two local stewards who had just goning to garden centre to get forks for doing the ground , we went to the local establishment oppersite the ground , to be told by one local football no welcome here as it’s a rugby town , after a few more beers the rugby fan was broadcasting to all Boro supporters that he could make one phone call and he could get around 2000 fans down to give us a good beating , great banter that day !

Leigh were quite the club. They actually finished 5th in the Conference the season before playoffs were introduced. Can you imagine if they’d gone up to the Football League?

It used to be a running joke that they made their attendances up, because every week it’d be 201, 301, 201, 401, 201 etc. They were so poorly supported. On each occasion I saw them at Boro, they brought six fans. We segregated and opened the Edgehill Road stand for six fans. No wonder we went bust!

Interesting that from that table, Rushden & Diamonds, Leigh, Telford, Chester, Boro, Hereford, Nuneaton, and I think Kettering, have all folded/liquidated/reformed since then. I may even have missed a couple

Even against York and Hartlepool in the FA Cup, they got 2,806 and 2,887, well below capacity.

I think we’ll be fine. 2,000+ perhaps, but can’t see the need to be all ticket.

My take on kittrick interview by Leeds seadog 27

Posted: 13/12/2017 at 20:22:24, 154 views.

I wasn’t at the game last night but my take on the kittrick interview is simple. We have won the last two games, and the players are part time and have jobs away from boro so imho unless we are losing then I don’t think they deserve abuse.. If that has happened at the game last night? I think we all need to appreciate that these lads are not full time players, yes they get some money but playing for boro will be for the love of the game. Things get said during games but imo I think it would be a shame if this sort of thing drove players or kittrick away

Up the boro!

Was expecting SK to be much more forthright than he was having seen that comment. I’d expect him to stick up for his players, that’s fair enough. The only minor issue I have was that he was indicating that this was a long-standing issue - that hasn’t been my experience - and I think he vast, vast majority of us are resolute in getting behind the team and individual players. Personally, I distance myself from any ‘fan’ having a go at individual players, so I wouldn’t consider myself to be the target of his comments or that it is aimed at “the fans" as a whole. In fact (good ’stream of consciousness’ post, this one!) I’d endorse those views and condemn anyone sticking the boot in - particularly with young players.

I was sat in the main stand & don’t recall any slagging off of players in particular apart from a few moans of frustration occasionally. The people around me were saying the young midfielder looked a decent prospect especially as it was his first game for a while I guess. The only shouting that I know of & confess to was when JJ had been injured and waiting to come back on. The ref signalled him FOUR times to come on before he did. We were just shouting for him to get back on. Apart from that - well I didn’t hear anything bad. I do feel frustrated at times but try to bottle it & would never disrespect a player / management or official.

Hyde travel for supporters club by Athletico seadog

Ken said last night if he can fill the supporters bus for the Hyde away game a week on Saturday (40 ish) he possibly would be able to charge as little as 12.50 per head. Anyone interested get your name down at the home game on sat or give Ken a ring

Hope this is well taken up. It’s a big game, and one which we need to have a large vocal contingent of Boro fans at, to try and at least partly counter the even larger vocal contingent of Hyde fans. Last season, Hyde were the noisiest home fans at any away game we went to, and this season, only South Shields will out-sing them.

Thoughts on the game by Burniston User: Burniston

Posted: 13/12/2017 at 10:08:05, 157 views.

In the 1st half Marske were all over us and certainly didn’t look like a division below to me. We could not find our passes & seemed all over the place as they pressed us on the ball. I would have been surprised if we even held on for a draw. 2nd half and playing into the wind and light rain was going to be difficult. Until ….. enter young Max as sub. & along with putting James Cadman more central we were suddenly pressing them & not giving them the time on the ball. The whole team lifted themselves and the 2nd half belonged to us, no question. Marske were not given time on the ball and suddenly looked a different team as they started missing their passes. Both our goals were brilliant but especially Coulo when receiving a throwout from Tom Morgan (who again last night showed his class) deep in his own half attacked with speed & despite a few attempts by defenders to hold him back smacked a low shot from what seemed a long way out just inside the post to seal the game for us.

The craziest thing that I have ever seen at a football match was when young Jack Johnson went off injured (cramp?) and was stood on the touchline waiting to come on. He wasn’t watching for the referee who signalled FOUR times for him to go back on over what seemed an eternity. The crowd all saw the ref each time & were shouting at him to get on. To be honest I struggled to get my head round it.

I thought James Cadman looked good in spells - maybe let himself down occasionally but feel he needs more game time and he will come good. He has shown us in the past what a decent player he is & I for one would like to see him at least come off the bench a bit more.

After that 2nd half, really looking forward to Saturday.

Curious point - non-fan related by New Seadog

Posted: 13/12/2017 at 09:36:58, 191 views. In reply to 'RE: RE: RE: interview with a “furious” SK coming soon aparently'

He mentions these lads not playing much football and having to come in and it being difficult.

I understand you want a strong side out each game, but maybe these lads need to play more often - not all at once - to keep them match fit. With a busy Xmas period it’s important they’re ready when needed.

As for fans, while I wouldn’t advocate having a go at them myself, people pay their money and are entitled to say what they think. It’s part of football, and maybe they need to suck it up and get on with it.

I was sat in the stand and don’t think there was much hostility, new player seemed to have a decent game, yes as always people have opinions on players and that’s fair enough but I would say the negative comments were about the tactics of lumping the ball from the back to Jimmy & seeing us outplayed In footballing terms for at least the first half and up the point that max was bought on when his direct running completely changed the game, a bit of frustration towards the assistant manager who held Johnson on the sideline talking to him after an injury despite being signalled by the referee 3 times it was ok to return. as for young players I thought it was the managers preference to get rid of them all and replace them with 36 year olds, perhaps the smaller crowd means individual comments get heard more easily but he should be pleased that so many turned out on a grim night rather than having a go at the fans.

yes but if you turn up and offer no value then he has a right to say.

also yes people pay their money but there is a misconception that, yes you are entitled to an opinion, what you are not entitled to is to have it heard, loudly….repeatedly. to a young kid playing football as a second job.

we are not a big club. we are just known.

How did the door-eating ceremony go?

Marske are fighting it out for the title in the league South Shields won last season, so they’re obviously very good (and we could be playing them next season if we don’t go up) so a nice morale boosting win as we go into the “hectic" Christmas/New Year period.

I wasn’t there tonight, so I can’t possibly comment, but it sounds like from what I can gather on twitter, that we used the home dugout and wore our home shirt, which would suggest it was a home match for us. The programme was apparently Marske’s but that would simply have been due to the one day notice of the switch. I may however be totally wrong!!

Marske adapted to the awful conditions a lot quicker than us and had some good forward players in there number 7 and 10, once we brought on max and walshaw we looked a better side, credit to tom Morgan who made some excellent blocks also felt sorry for billy Logan tonight didn’t even get on in a game where he probably should of started alongside beadle
