I see Emile scored for Ossett.
As he is cup tied having scored a hat-trick for us against Sheffield in an earlier round, I assume Ossett will be removed from the competition.
However, as Goole also apparently fielded a player who played against us for Sheffield, will that mean they will also be removed, giving us a bye, or will they have to replay the tie?
Anyone know?

Derry Robson playing for Goole who played against us for Sheffield so guessing the rule doesn’t apply.

I’m a bit confused. Ossett have tweeted that the rule definitely doesn’t apply in this cup, and so he was indeed eligible. I might be wrong but I’m sure I remember a relatively important player, can’t remember who, that wasn’t allowed to play for us during our run to the final in 15/16 due to being cup tied. Might have been one of Kittrick’s early signings. Strange.

Bigger Picture by DudleySeadog User: DudleySeadog

Posted: 13/11/2017 at 23:16:53, 219 views.

People really aren’t looking further afield here, we average double/treble the crowds we had in Brid, and we keep more of that money than we did before. We will now as a result of those crowds take in more money naturally via programmes, team sheets, golden gamble, food/drink and merchandise. Not to mention the sheer volume of sponsorship boards that the ground now has, that is clearly a lot of money being pumped into the club from a sponsorship perspective. Then finally, our 6 figure sponsorship deal. SIX FIGURE. Anyone who got the club finances for 2016/17 a month or so ago will know just how huge that sum of money on it’s own is in comparison to where the club was financially 2 years ago.

Now that we have touched on the income, let’s put some extra perspective on why finishing in the tail end of the playoffs isn’t good enough. We spent an additional 30-40% in 16/17 than in 15/16 overall on playing/coaching staff, now i reckon on average the teams finishing top 3 probably have an increase of 15-20% average on playing/coaching staff (someone please correct me with factual sources if i’m wrong), with the exception of clubs like Shields who probably had around 30-40% increase on their expenditure on players/coaches, maybe more, than last season. That 30-40% was 16/17 and we came third, and by my reckoning with the volume of players and quality (Wright, Beadle, Coulson) we have probably heavily invested further and increased our spend by another good 25-30%. With that in mind, by no means should we be accepting losing to 2 play off rivals in such a poor manner when we have such large amount of resources behind us. Reason for those defeats? Poor tactics and lack of knowledge of our best 11 by our manager. I’d say currently 4/5 of our players each week are constants that he knows will start the game. Coulson, Wright, Merris and Taylor. The rest will be used sporadically it seems. In November, we cannot still be looking to source our best 11, only knowing just under half the players that are ever presents, simply isn’t good enough. Around 8-9 players should be constant first team selections with their positions on the pitch cemented rather than played pillar to post every other week. This is exactly why we do get found out by teams who have a game plan against us, as we have no plan B to counter it. We play a mish mash of nice football for 10 mins followed by long ball for 20 then repeat. We don’t seem to have an alternative to turn a game around at times, we look beaten soon as we get sussed.

Final reason behind my views on Kittrick is man management - or the lack of. Undermined 2 local players now in 2 years. That can’t keep happening, player trust in the manager will diminish very quickly, he may have gotten away with it with Rory as he wasn’t a senior squad player, but Billy is. Look at pre-season and how many players left the club, sure a fair handful bettered themselves and are player in higher leagues, but realistically i’d like to think last seasons squad with 1 or 2 faces would have easily won us promotion this season, without a doubt. Then when we do replace the faces, we end up with an abundance of strikers, then now somehow have ended up short of strikers, how on earth has the manager allowed that to happen? It’s on his watch, he has to take his share of the blame for it because as the manager the buck stops with him in regards to this squad.

We may be 4th, we may have 33 goals, and we may achieve 2pts average per game. Problem is, we earnt a chunk of that prior to being found out, we’ve dropped 7 points in 3 away matches, that realistically we should have dropped 2/3 maximum in. Not good enough. I wouldn’t have gone to the lengths i have done if i really didn’t feel like Kittrick is taking us on a slippery slope backwards, can we afford to keep piling in extra amounts of money only for us to fail the objective of promotion??

As someone else pointed out, we could easily have a Gary Rowett situation on our hands where Birmingham sacked him when they were doing pretty well, and were certainly in the promotion/play-off mix, and instead, they appointed Zola and ended up almost being relegated. They’re not exactly doing any better this season either. Sometimes, in football, you really don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.

the post tbh.

Finances. Why do you say we get to keep more than we have before ? Granted our income is greater. But so is our expenditure (Insurances, Stewards etc). Yes we have sponsorship boards that we didn’t have before. Remember huge the six-figure sponsorship deal is controlled by the council and is ring-fenced though, it’s not ours to spend on players.

Next we have some fag packet maths. You want correcting with factual sources but your statements are all ‘I reckon’ and ‘probably’. There is little concrete evidence that we have such a ‘large amount of resources behind us’ compared to other teams. You know Julio Arca at Shields is rumoured to be on £1k a week (plus he gets bonuses linked to the attendances) right ? You may be right about the quality but is Wright more expensive than say Benny or Jacob Hazel last season? Remember Wright is not an SAFC player.

Selection. I have 7 who are constant selections, nearer to your 8/9 than your suggested 4/5. Taylor, Merris, Hewitt, Daly, Dean, Wright, Coulson. Could add Valentine but I haven’t because he has been used in a few different positions. Could now add Jack Johnson who looks to have earnt the right back spot. SK has said often he wanted an experienced defender and a centre forward. He knows what he needs, he just has to get the right one (or maybe just a body at CF for the minute).

What makes you think we’be been ‘found out’? We’Ve hit a bit of poor form. We’ve lost 2/3 away from home. We could easily have picked up 5 or 7 points though with a bit more luck (yes, I was at all 3 games), It happens. It’s football.

As for players leaving, that is always going to happen when they are not getting regular first team football. They don’t get paid if they are not in the squad. Would you hang around if it meant you were out of pocket each week? Especially if you had mates texting you saying ‘come and play for us’.

Stop panicking!

Do you think I would have gone to the lengths of this post if I didn’t think we were in a pretty decent position ?

Maybe you are right, maybe I am. BUT the board have committed to letting SK have a chance at earning promotion for us. You have to let him have that chance. Who would want to come and manage us if we axed a manager who had us in 4th (3rd if you take games in hand) and had just taken us on an FA Cup run that was the longest in the clubs history ? You talk about player trust in the manager, but the manager has to trust the club (fans included) to give him a fair crack.

Let’s get behind him and the players on Saturday. Let’s encourage not discourage. Let’s do our bit.

In simple analysis…. by willesden seadog User: willesden seadog

Posted: 14/11/2017 at 08:07:31, 175 views. In reply to 'RE: Bigger Picture'

South Shields will walk the league. We are in a mini league with Hyde, Bamber Bridge, Glossop and maybe Prescot and Ossett Town for second place.

Time will tell if we’re good enough to finish as runners-up. I suspect we’ll be in the play-offs, or can maybe sneak one of the 3rd place promotion spots if we accrue enough points; although that’s an outside chance in such a tight division.

Is that good enough? I think that largely depends on if we win the play-offs or not. I’m not particularly bothered how we go up; but there will never be a better opportunity to do so. We must not waste it.

Have to agree with Dudley’s post re tactics and man management. Very poor, but not helped by players going public on social media and then stating what goes on in the dressing room should stay there; without a hint of irony. Although I would be bloody fuming in Logan’s position in fairness.

The match on the Saturday before Christmas at Hyde will be critical. Let’s hope we learned something from our previous two encounters.

Agree with original post… by New Seadog

…in terms of man-management or lack of. Logan is right to be livid if the manager has said he wants to be an impact sub and he hasn’t said that. I mean, why would a player say that? Does any player at any level want to be on the bench? I don’t think so. It seemed odd at the time, and seems even more so now.

I don’t understand why the player gets criticised for posting something publicly on social media and letting things ‘out of the dressing room’. Yet the manager has also gone public with something ‘from the dressing room’ by telling everyone what has supposedly been said. It can’t work one way and not the other, plus the manager should lead by example if he doesn’t want things out in public.

Going right back to the start, I also don’t think the manager needs to justify his selection publicly (even though it made absolutely no sense to me personally). It would’ve avoided all this from the start.

Not sure on finances as I don’t have the numbers, but you would expect we would be one of the highest spenders on wages int the league, if rumours of players wages are to be believed.

The final judgement on the manager will be at the end of the season as people have stated, but those who know football will know these signs are the start of things potentially unfurling. Potentially. I hope not.

Billy Logan stating he’s unhappy with the comments kittrick made about him wanting to be an impact sub. Stated he wants to play every minute of every game.

I continue to feel that kittrick deserves to continue managing….. a solid start to the season with a great cup run. However, he does seem to have a habit of making things difficult for himself. The one thing I won’t tolerate as a fan is having a manager or an official lie to us…. enough of that at the old club.

Wish he just came out and said he wanted to try something that didn’t work! Anyway…. think he’s on thin ice, and the irony is it’s not so much results, but his inability to adhere himself to the fans. No more lies

I must admit I was very surprised by SK’s claim in that interview that Logan was happy coming off the bench each game. It just seemed very implausible. A striker who is happy to sit on the bench? He must be the first one ever. Maybe it just came out wrong and he meant to say Billy’s just glad to make the squad given the number of others who have been axed.

But there appears more to have been a miscommunication. SK (and CB, and they will have talked about this remember) believe that Billy wants to be an ‘impact sub’. Billy has agreed that that discussion took place but it appears that they took different things away at the end of the discussion.

Lies ? I’m not convinced. SK would not have made that statement if he didn’t feel that it was the truth, what would he have to gain ?

He’s admitted they tried something on Saturday. That it didn’t work was disappointing, but it didn’t.

He’s said he wants a new striker, it’s not been a secret, he was talking about it before the FA Cup exit. We need a 20 goal a season man. Preferably a big lad IMO. Then I think we have a squad that will challenge for the top 2 places IMO.

We don’t need knee jerk reactions, we need to pull together. We need to win on Saturday and start a ‘run’ like we put together at the end of last season.

The fact that a player is spouting on social media shows a distinct lack of professionism either way. Sk quotes that Logan said what he said in front of a Chris Bolder too so is there two sides and the not?

Lack of professionalism? by New Seadog

Posted: 14/11/2017 at 14:31:56, 235 views. In reply to 'RE: Logan on Fbook'

It was firstly shown by the manager by discussing private conversations with the media. You can’t have it both ways. If the manager sets a precedent of not discussing internal matters and wants the players to follow then fine, but he spoke to the media about a private conversation, and the player has responded in kind.

In my opinion, the manager doesn’t need to justify his selections to the fans. Even though I didn’t agree at all with the Stimpson move, he is the manager and he gets to pick the team. The who, why and wherefores are up to him. He’s judged on that and can’t feasibly have to justify a decision each time he makes one that isn’t ‘the norm’.

I’ve got no idea why SK didn’t give Lewis a proper chance. And we can all cut the rubbish about loans and game time it’s a way to say they aren’t coming back. When we had Lewis back a couple of years ago he was a real threat and a proper last man sort of striker. I think he would fit straight into our team no problem, that’s if he’s fit of course.

He’s not a target man, which is what SK needs. We already have small nippy forwards in Coulson and Wright , the number 9 in the centre of those two needs to be something different

Have we fallen into the trap of thinking crowds = success? by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

Posted: 13/11/2017 at 13:55:44, 166 views.

We can all agree that the club feels a lot bigger this season than it has in the previous decade. Averaging over 1,000 at home when in the past it’s been in the 300s makes us feel like we are a giant in this league. Only South Shields are outdoing us, and it’s nearly a 700 fan drop to Glossop in third place in the attendance tables. But since when did good crowds = success?

Have a word with Leyton Orient in the Conference. Attendance table: 3rd, actual table: 19th.
Have a word with Darlington and FC United in the Conference North. Attendance table: 5th/3rd, actual table: 13th/19th.
Have a word with Stafford Rangers in the league above. Attendance table: 3rd, actual table: 12th.

Despite our recent slip-ups, we are doing better than last season. Last season we got 73 points from 42 games at 1.74pts per game. This season we’ve got 29 from 14 at 2.07. If we repeat the form of our opening 14 games twice again, we’ll get 14 more points than last season (87), and will be borderline 2nd position.

We have also reached the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. We were one result away from being on BBC Match of the Day live against MK Dons of League One. Read that sentence again. Last season, we lost at Tadcaster in the first game.

So yes, we are suddenly a big fish in a smallish pond, but as soon as we start admitting this or thinking it, that’s when trouble hits.

South Shields didn’t panic when Colwyn Bay beat them. They just got on with it. Likewise when we lost at Glossop, we beat Ramsbottom four days later at home.

Yes we’re struggling against the better sides, and yes, we might have to “settle" for the playoffs, but please remember that everything is new this season. For the board. For the manager. For the players. For the fans. New ground, new pitch, new expectations, new atmosphere. That isn’t easy.

Stick with us. If we finish 5th, so be it, we’ll have to do it the hard way, but let’s not be too hard on ourselves. We’re probably the 3rd or 4th best team in this league at the moment, and still looking to recuit players to strengthen. Two seasons ago we finished 20th and had a home crowd of 211. Let’s not run before we can walk eh? Let’s match last season’s playoff position as a minimum, and hopefully go one better. Anything else is a bonus (such as a record breaking cup run…).

Up the Boro.

new squad as well, yes we got off to a flier which got us in a great position but the problem being that now its expected every game, every team hits a inconsistant patch, the proof of the pudding is how you deal with it
SK knows we need a couple more players,i`d be more concerned if he didn`t ,lets get behind the team and stop playing fifa.

Crowds don’t automatically mean success but on the whole there is a correlation. Crowds = money and that generally has a big impact on success.

As a club we have had just two promotions in a decade despite having the higuest attendances in most of the leagues we’ve played in. I think we’ve underachieved as a club. Of course that’s not Kittrick’s fault but I don’t think fans expectations of progress up the leagues is unreasonable.

That big crowds means more money. And at this level it doesn’t always correlate. Shaw Lane ?

We’re not that affluent when compared to other clubs. We had the 3rd or 4th highest wage bill last year, we came 3rd. Not an underachievement or overachievement. We get our money from different sources. And remember we spent 10 years in Brid, 20 miles from the fans and businesses that we need to support us.

On another note, some fans are (rightly) calling for ground improvements etc. We can only spend the money once.

I haven’t seen any team this year much better than us, it’s between us and Hyde… I’d like to know why paddy doesn’t want to play for us though..

I don’t think the FlamingoLand Stadium is on a bus route. I haven’t seen any buses approaching the ground or evidence of a bus stop near the ground.

However it is within pretty easy walking distance of the town centre and Falsgrave. If walking is truly an issue then Seamer Road is really close to one of the sets of turnstiles. You would have to alight the bus on Seamer Road, walk under a bridge that carries the railway line overhead and then proceed to the turnstile.

Hope you enjoy your visit,

If your coming by car plenty of parking next to the sport’s village buses only from railway station every 30 MINS to seamer road entrance 17 or 777 service. I use these services every home match be at the bus stops on westborough opposite the sjt theatre 2pm onwards

Bus from outside Railway Station by Old Git

The number 17. Not sure which bus shelter
but it should be numbered or just ask someone.
It stops at Lidl which is the old Athletic Ground,
so get off and walk back up the road until you see the
road down under the rail bridge.
if you know Seamer Road there is another stop
at Roseberry Avenue, which means a walk down to the rail bridge
so either stop is perfect for a short walk to ground.
Every 15 mins on Saturday.
If you’re going straight back to Railway Station after game
walk down to Lidl and get any bus back, including the
Coastliner 843.

And if he went that runs the risk of others going too. What if Slade uses it as an opportunity to recall Max? What if other players get their heads turned by opportunities…or don’t fit into a new manager’s plan?

Everything looking rosy, we’re well placed for all 3 of our promotion routes out.

Nobody moans when we win and players have poor games, some games we’ve won and rode our luck at the same time, people need to seriously look at the bigger picture, we’re all pissed off when we lose and yet we’re all elated when we win, can win games when you shouldn’t and you can lose games when you think you shouldn’t..

Fact of the matter is if your not switched mentally you can come unstuck, players are still human at the end of the day, we win and lose together, last thing we need is a big devide between the fans, it’s crucial that we continue to push the lads on, even when they make mistakes !

Stimpson up front, panic and …… by Zante Seadog

Posted: 12/11/2017 at 13:39:15, 192 views.

Stop the negativity ffs
‘If’ Stimpson says he can do a job up front then why not give him a chance. It didn’t work,
Shit happens. Lesson learnt. If he’d banged a couple in SK would be a genius right now.
It didn’t work, SK openly admits we need a 20+ striker to add to the jigsaw. You can’t go to tesco and pick one up but he’s trying.
We need to get behind the team through thick and thin, we’re hardly having a bad season, 4th in the league, lots of football to play.
Just my opinion and I’m happy to read everyone else’s opinions but I firmly believe if we all get behind our team we will be up there when it matters. Shouting abuse doesn’t help the lads on the pitch or the manager or the bench. Although I do think some of our fans enjoy moaning more when we get beat than they do cheering when we’re winning. ;)

RE Clarkson scored for Barton today by YorkshireJAMES

Posted: 12/11/2017 at 15:29:45, 156 views. In reply to 'clarkson scored for Barton again'

Clarkson always seems to be injured, when he arrived back at boro he couldn’t get in the team due to the strikers we had at the time, since then he’s gone out on loan and not done a right lot until yesterday..

As for Turnbull yh he’s had to go out and get some games and we’ve brought someone in who did one thing wrong yesterday and it was his first game, needs a few matches to get used to the other players in the team, far too early to judge..

Pickering played 5 at the back and even then they let a goal in against a very poor Barton side, even with Matty in at CB, it’s all swings and roundabouts!

I don’t know how hes playing but hes scored in last 2 games, It just seems that once they go they are gone for ever, only time will tell but I suspect Matty will soon be taken by one of our rivals, any money on tadcaster ?, as you say time will prove the wisdom of the decision but at the moment most fans are unhappy with it so if it doesn’t work the buck stops with the manager & as I say I think its the reason the fans are less positive towards him.

Posted: 12/11/2017 at 16:58:04, 188 views. In reply to 'RE: RE Clarkson scored for Barton today'

It was Matty’s choice to move away to get first team football.

Yes, SK dropped him due to poor performances, but he also asked him to sit and watch at Kendal (as per his interview) and didn’t simply tell him to stay at home. SK didn’t think Matty warranted a place in the team for one reason or another, and when he did play, wasn’t happy with his performances. Because of this, Matty decided to ask to go to Pickering to play first team football.

We didn’t let him go - he wanted to leave to play football. SK’s only “crime" in all this is not giving Matty time on the pitch, rightly or wrongly depending on your views.

There’s been much comment this week about perceived weaknesses in the team and SK’s response to this situation

SK ( and therefore the Club) and the players involved are both victims of the structure/financial constraints of football at our level

Years ago SFC, and others like us , had a Reserve team which played n the Yorkshire League. We could therefore maintain a squad of potential 1st team players, on contracts, with the opportunity for players who were either returning from injury and/or loss of form to get regular football and press for a return to the 1st team - a situation which benefited both player and Club.

We don’t have that luxury these days , many Football League sides can,t afford a second team, so let’s have a bit more understanding of the difficulties of both the manager and also of players who are not playing regularly - I have sympathy for all those involved
