There’s been so many match postponements across our league this season, as it seems to have been a particularly dry autumn and early winter this year. Hardly comparable with, say, 2000 or 2007 when we had heavy rain practically on a daily basis.

Boro 5 - 1 Tadcaster with Dave Merris sent off in second half.

Att - 2,000+ with people locked out.

Just get there a bit earlier and always room at the front or being the goal :)

Agree with others. Good squad of players not playing in a formation that suits them. Either back to basics of 442 or maybe 352 would suit us. The current one hasn’t really worked for me. We’ve good players so win games but the better sides are more organised and in a shape that protects first then let’s them play. We edge out poor sides and get beat by better sides. Be solid and hard to beat then create and our better players will make things happen. Still think a slight tweak and we could be away. The three up front isn’t working despite them all been fantastic players.

Unacceptable, Kittrick! by Aylesbury Seadog

Posted: 24/12/2017 at 10:27:55, 224 views.

To me, yesterday’s shambolic result is “the writing on the wall” for our season.

We have consistently. Consistently. Failed to beat teams in the top six, including Hyde United and South Shields. Furthermore, even when we have defeated sides from near the bottom it’s usually been by a very small margin, such as a few weeks ago against Atherton Collieries when we scraped a 1-0 win. This all in spite of huge amounts of investment by Kittrick.

Other teams don’t mess up. Recently, South Shields came back “from the death” to earn three points at Mossley having been 2-1 down until the dying moments of the game when they scored twice in a few dramatic minutes. Had South Shields been trailing at Hyde United yesterday - they would have gone out all guns blazing in the second-half and finished their opponents off swiftly with a one-man advantage. Significantly, our inability to do so shows incredible weakness and, I’m afraid, suggests that we’re simply not good enough to gain promotion this season.

South Shields yesterday could only draw at home to Trafford, the same result as we got.

Hyde lost at Clitheroe, where we won 4-0.

Bamber Bridge lost at home to Ramsbottom.

Inconsistent Trafford won 4-0 one week and lost 6-1 the next.

I agree that we need to improve our record against fellow promotion contenders, and that it’s not good enough. But I refuse to believe that yesterday’s result was the “writing on the wall". We all know there will be lots of twists and turns in the promotion race between now and April. Look at last season’s barmy ending to the season.

Our home record is now very good, I think we’ve won 6 and drawn 1 of the last 7 home league games. Home games against Prescot, Bamber Bridge, Droylsden and the like will be vital, hopefully we can finally win some “six pointers". I think you’re right, we’ve not actually won such a game since the Glossop game in March.

Even if we do “only" make the play-offs, if we can do so in third it would mean that I don’t think we should fear anyone at home (other than Hyde). Up the Boro and Merry Christmas!!

Our record against the current top 10 by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

Posted: 24/12/2017 at 10:50:53, 152 views. In reply to '“other teams don’t mess up”'

Played 7
Won 1
Drawn 2
Lost 4

Scored 9
Conceded 12

Points 5 (from a possible 21)

Whilst I think the original post was slightly overdramatic, our performances against the top sides does not fill me with the same confidence that SK has that we’ll “be where we need to be”.

Will we make the playoffs? Yes, comfortably in my opinion.
Will we finish second? I’m not convinced we’ll be within 10 points of Hyde.

If SK gets us up through playoffs finishing 6th I’ll be delighted.

But how do you lot expect us to “comfortably” gain a promotion place if, as you said, we’re not picking up points against the top ten sides? These are the very teams you have to beat.

I see your point in a way, but surely the way to ensure at least a play-off place is to pick up as many points as possible in total to get there. If the majority are from bottom half of the table sides (and in some cases, like Ossett Town & Mossley, only bottom half cos we put them there), it’s not really an issue. At least so far we’ve avoided the ’stinkers’ against lower half teams (Radcliffe Home/Burscough away). We’re still picking up 2 points a game which is more than we ended up with last season.

On a purely points per game basis, if the top 6 carried on as they are, (which they won’t obviously) it would finish

1. South Shields…109 pts
2. Hyde…91 pts
3. Bamber Bridge…88 pts.
4. Boro…84 pts
5. Drolysden….79 pts
6. Prescot…76 pts.

If we were to get 84 and finish 4th it would be remarkably unlucky but you make your own luck in football so they say.

Unacceptable…Kittrick. by Steve 0337

Posted: 24/12/2017 at 11:50:33, 152 views. In reply to 'Unacceptable, Kittrick!'

I agree with much of this post, as I do with 365 and Malton’s post. It was always going to be a tough job yesterday.
I was there and they were a much better side. Yes we battled hard in the second half and maybe deserved a second goal. But 3.1 was a fair reflection of the game in my eyes.
On the day only Taylor and Cadman shone for us. Their back four was superb. Far better than ours. I would gladly swap ours for theirs.
Midfield needs a real shake up..They work hard but with the exception of Cadman produce little.
The front lads were playing on scraps so it was difficult to jude tgeir performance. Curtis took his goal very well.
So, we cannot beat teams around us. That, to date is a fact. We do struggle to put other so called lesser teams away..Again fact..We are a decent side, of that we all agree. But we are some way from being an automatic promotion winning side.
It is muted that we have difficulty getting players to come to Scarborough because of the geography of our location?..That maybe so. But the truth of the matter is some of the present crop are not good enough to take us to the next level. I suppose the only answer to this would be to pay more in order to get better players in..Not easy, I agree, but if something does not happen soon then the best that we can hope for is a play off spot. I for one am becoming a tad frustrated by the managers excuses.

I think sacking or getting rid of SK won’t help matters half way through the season. I was there yesterday to see Tyrone Gay have another awesome performance. It was a fair result completely yesterday. Hyde are a really good side, but I still think we should be doing better against teams like Hyde. They had 10 men for 70 minutes…
In terms of selection, I’m not the manager - but why valentine and dean were not on from the start is beyond me. Their midfield are strong, athletic players so we should have matched them for that. Also, Hewitt clearly isn’t a great right back in my eyes. Got skinned so many times and is a bit too slow I feel to be a right back. I think their right back is quality tbh. Controlled Coulson really well. I think our defence lack a bit of pace and that was evident yesterday.

Got to say am disappointed by the result and Hyde seem to be so much better than us.. it’s a real shame we couldn’t poach Tyrone and Paddy during the summer… maybe it is the distance Huddersfield and Leeds to Manchester much more doable on a motorway than the awful A64.. you can’t say we don’t have a good enough forward line..

We’ve got the players. The formation and tactics are all to pot and the manager still doesn’t know his best XI at Christmas.

Why not try 3-5-2? That would allow Coulo and Walshaw to play alongside each other. At present the three forwards are playing 25 yards apart. Easy pickings for most defences, and definitely so for good teams; especially if you pump balls in the air towards an exposed centre forward against a dominant defender who’s already bossed the two previous games between the clubs.

There was no pressing and joining the attack from midfield. Maybe that should be Jimmy Beadle’s or James Cadman’s role? Oh for the creativity of a Pete Davidson.

Play Merris and Wright as wing backs with the three in centre midfield providing cover and impetus.

What was really worrying yesterday was the acceptance post match that the 10 men defended deeper, yet we did nothing to adapt tactically, with formation or with subs; at least until half time. If Valentine had put his sitter away just after the break it may have been different? That said we were being torn apart at the back every time Hyde went forward. It could have been 5-0 as easily as 3-2.

It’s a really difficult one because our league position / proximity to the top is ok, and we had a brilliant cup run. Also still in both other minor cups.

However…. really is concerning how poor we have been against top half teams. Kittrick had a history at guiseley of losing out in playoffs a lot…. maybe not a good manager for big games?
Can’t help but feel he over thinks big games and trys changing roo much.

My other worry is just how organised and coordinated Hyde were yesterday… not necessarily miles better players… they just knew their shape and game plan.

Either way…. no way I feel we can make a change yet… either we will go up or kittrick will go (that’s as far as I see it). Can’t see anything happening soon.

2 other things. 1) wish we would stop playing 4-3-3. Full backs always exposed and striker isolated….. we aren’t a full time club and a basic 4-4-2 would do me!
2) pissed me off at the end when kittrick told his players to come over to the crowd yet he didn’t. He really does seem to lack interpersonal skills at times (some players equally not seeming happy with him)

“We gave it a good go in the second half, their keeper made some good saves."
Yes. But so did ours. We could have been 5 down by the time curtis scored.
Fails to mention the 20 minutes in the first half when we played against 10 men when all their keeper had to do was catch a cross from coulson.
It took 10 minutes after they went down to 10 for our management duo to deem it right to get another man up with walshaw.
Fails to address why stimson wasn’t picked instead of some lad on loan for a month. Are we being dictated to by Harrogate town that he should play? Why was hewitt playing right back instead of valentine? Why was beadle not introduced up top with 10 mins to go on the first half?
“We’ve spoke about it in the dressing room" again….

You have posters on here and know who they are, but people don’t want to challenge them because of that, even when they may have something valid to say. Fish bowl for example. Totalshell would have received less air time.

Winston Churchill, Maggie Thatcher, Steve Kittrick by fish bowl User: fish bowl

Posted: 23/12/2017 at 17:56:39, 215 views.

your boys got a drubbing today…

played off the park for the first 12 minutes and made to look foolish.. Thankfully the Hyde no.10 checked out almost immediately after they went 2 up.. Only then did Boro look safer.. not better just safer. down to 10 men hyde were still better than boro and there was little huff and puff from a sterile front line especially so the golden booted Walshaw the most generous description of Boro front man was ‘Passive’ the hyde back 4 no 3, 6, 5 and 2 were resolute

frankly only very late on did boro even get the ball as far as the hyde goalie who proved up to the task of keeping a team berfit of options short on chances. in fact hyde were the next to score .. all afternoon their no 11 had taken the piss out of the boro right back running past at will. the addition of a fresh pair of legs to support him immediately led to the team with fewer players on the pitch over running a stretched defence and a well deserved hyde third…this after they had shots stopped on the line and boro had the post to thank for keeping at least one effort out as hyde piled on the pressure…. thank goodness they were down to 10 men and their star striker taking an early bath.. They would have mullered Boro.

so 4 months and 20 games in we have a direct comparsion of two teams thus far in the season. after a close fought goaless draw at home, Hyde have got organised discipline and speed, on the other hand Boro shipped three goals easily and have zero attacking threat. ,

i keep going round in circles

Bloody hell…. with such an in depth report maybe you should support your own team and help them out rather than come on here to gloat.
Don’t remember any of your reports following Boro wins?!

Was awful today nonetheless…. really concerned kittrick always loses big games and makes strange changes.
Like the new centre half but he is here on a months loan…. not sure you should throw out a regular with no warning before the game for someone that likely will be gone in a month.

Really feel we have a decent team… but today we massively lacked tactical direction and motivation from the manager. Hyde players fully bought into what their manager wanted.

Concerning times for someone who has always backed kittrick

Some of its accurate but on the back of one game and the fact we are only 3 points behind Hyde, not sure such sweeping statements are completely fair.

And as for humour…. not sure many Boro fans will find it funny after turning out as half the crowd today to watch a team they habe put more into than most clubs, lose 3-1 in a big game. Guess that’s why you did it tho… partly to piss people off

First and last ten minute rule didn’t work out well today did it with a disastrous start to the game. We were never going to come back from that. The sending off gave us a sniff but it wasn’t to be.

It was only last week we had a slight majority saying that SK was the right man for the job, but for me, once again he’s been found wanting when it comes down to the crunch matches. Obviously not there today but despite playing 10 men for 70 minutes it appeared we were still second best. He had all summer to improve HIS squad from nearly men to title winners / promotion contenders and yet despite club financial backing, we are still chopping and changing (improving?) the squad each week and that must be affecting team morale for those lads not getting a game.

I agree that promotion is everything and that is still within his grasp, but his methods don’t instill me with the confidence that we can gain that through anything but the back door, despite the resources at his disposal. Accepting 3rd 4th or even 7th might be good enough, I must admit to having expected more from his input and experience. Looking forward to his interview, and as you say, finding out who or what was to blame this week.

In the meantime,
a) it’s hot here
b) the bar is on free vend
c) York City lost and we could be playing them again one day soon

Merry Christmas all. 🎅
