From Steve Adamsons “The Official History “. The big news of 1989 was the announcement by Geoffrey Richmond that the club was looking to sell the ground and move to a new site, possibly at Caytom Low Road, where a modern, purpose built stadium would be erected. A Hull based development company had agreed to pay £2.56 million for the McCain Stadium, for a supermarket site, and would build the club a new ground of planning permission was forthcoming.
There was much talk of a proposed sale of the McCain Stadium for a supermarket site, with Chairman Geoffrey Richmond now hoping to re-locate to Dunslow Road, close to the Eastfield Industrial Estate.
And the rest is history.
