Why spoil it by villager

Having a good run in the league don’t want to spoil this with getting involved in tin pot cups even though it generates some further income its not worth it two injuries sustained today needlessly is a case in point

This ‘tinpot’ cup was the high-light of many a Boro fan’s life (were the stalwarts who went to Workington today, wrong to do so?) and an integral part of the club’s history/identity. It would give some of our younger supporters (or most as they should probably be known) the chance of a day out to see their team at Wembley. It would/could be a money-spinner. Keeping a winning run going is no bad thing. Winning the league/gaining promotion might bring various problems that we as a club are not yet ready for (finance s/ground developments) as per previous posts on this site. Not saying you’re wrong villager but there’s more than one point of view possible.

Must admit I am torn. A trophy run and keeping the unbeaten run would be good. Then I think concentrate on the league especially if other teams in and about us have gone through is good (not seen results). Almost a free hit, only worry is the injuries picked up.

Not the team, but stupid comments like this everytime we loose a cup match, I am sure everyone involved with the cup would have liked us to win both this & the fa cup match and we obviously didn’t perform on the day, so we put this behind us and carry on but I wont accept its good we lost. if we want to play less games I suggest we play a week team in the league & NR cups

Older Boro fans quite understandably have quite an affection for the FA Trophy given our successful history in the competition. But the competition itself seems to be viewed almost with distain by the top non-league clubs these days, in the same way that Premier League teams view the FA Cup. It’s seen as a distraction from the main focus of the season. The top clubs don’t seem to take it too seriously until the latter stages (when you can win some decent prize money - I think the winners get over £100,000 depending on what stage they joined at).

Of course after today all the usual cliches about concentrating on the league will be trotted out in the post-match interviews but i’m really disappointed today’s result means we won’t be seeing any more FA Cup or FA Trophy game at the FLS this season.

Easy to say that when we lost , but the team where sh##e. We didn’t have one shot in 90 minutes of football , as for the 2 injuries ,they ought to man up.,a lot of fans went there today expecting the team to play ,they didn’t bother ,it was a disgrace😈

Yeah because in 17 league games we are averaging over 2 points. Trouble is when we do lose which isn’t very often but seems to be in cup games people have these comments disgraceful etc….. When we lost to Nantwich everything was doom and gloom, but hey they are 2nd. In last 7 days we have played 3 away games. I am disappointed that I won’t be going to Wembley this year etc. No one has a right to win every game…. Real Madrid are in worse state than us looking at their form. We had this reaction last when we lost to Bamber Bridge and Colwyn Bay last but then didn’t win 9 out of 10 or something? Anyway you as I are entitled to their view which makes football the greatest sport out there.

My honest assessment of the cup competitions. by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

Posted: 27/10/2018 at 20:30:26, 262 views. In reply to 'RE: RE: Why spoil it'

FA Cup - treat as importantly as the league. Prestige and money to be won.
FA Trophy - nice to have a run, but not at the expense of league games.
Doodson/League Cup - a distraction, and one to give some fresh legs a game. Wins a bonus providing no injuries/suspensions.
North Riding Senior Cup - play fringe players until it gets serious (semi if drawn against a York/Middlesbrough/Whitby).

BUT - despite this - two of the most memorable nights in recent history have been the finals of the bottom two competitions in that list.

SK will go out to win every game. We won’t. Rather lose at Workington in the Trophy than the League. These defeats give us a lesson in complacency, and can actually be useful exercises in reminding the squad that they’re not invincible.

No Geoff I didn’t I was about 400 miles away watching Langney Wanderers (coached by ex Seadog Youth and Reserve team player Wayne Wilkinson) slip to a piss poor 2-1 defeat to East Preston in the Sussex County League. My point is that we over react to any defeat. Like you I am entitled to my opinions even though I live in Eastbourne. Don’t think I commented on the game itself but the way we seem or some of us react to a defeat. I note that previously you don’t think much of our defence. SK has said the performance was embarrassing so that is good enough for me.

If they were a disgrace they’ve earned it…. by mrs trellis User: mrs trellis

Posted: 28/10/2018 at 00:48:37, 299 views. In reply to 'RE: Why spoil it'

I wasn’t there today Geoff it was the third away game I’ve missed all season . I’l take your word for it that we under performed but I aren’t going to let you get away with calling the current Boro set up a disgrace.

What you saw today was an off day. A team that have achieved 22 points from a possible 27 away from home playing particularly badly and going out of a prestigious cup is not a disgrace.

A disgrace is 15 years of incompetent or corrupt ownership and seven years spiralling down through the divisions.
A disgrace is professional footballers such as Wayne Bullimore or Jamie Hoyland swanning around thinking they are too good to fight for a place in the football league.
A disgrace is not recognising the recent achievements that have driven your own inflated expectations.

Last week we beat a team six nil on their own pitch - their reaction was to offer praise to us rather than condemn their own team.

You’ve travelled, you’ve paid, well done! But if you can’t accept that not every week will be like Hyde, Stafford, Stalybridge, Ferriby, Lancaster or Gainsborough then you are wasting your time.
On your suggestion that injured players ought to man up, if you’ll forgive the indulgence, I’ll trust the professionally trained judgment of Mr. Machin rather than your sweaty guess from fifty or sixty metres.

We win together we lose together. Get a grip and save the rhetoric for when it matters Geoff. Can’t you see that throwing words such as “disgrace" around after the second away defeat in eleven matches serves to make you look an impatient fool.

I’m enormously proud of Boro this season. I’ve walked into so many away games saying a draw will be a good result here and walked out ecstatic at the win. The Boro team I support tonight have earned the right to a bad day at the office and deserve my continued support. How you choose to react after this armageddon , is of course, entirely up to you. How other Boro fans choose to judge you and your clearly expressed opinion is now rather less in your control.

Not everyone can be this silly but it is nice to see so many trying.

“Disgrace” though…. by mrs trellis User: mrs trellis

Posted: 28/10/2018 at 13:59:35, 288 views. In reply to 'RE: If they were a disgrace they’ve earned it….'

Accepting that you didn’t extend the remark to the club as a whole and apologies for being a little too personal in my original reply, but by referring to the display as a disgrace presumably means that you thought the players were collectively or individually disgraceful.

My point is that although this may well have been a “poor performance" (SK), had I been there yesterday I can’t see a set of circumstances where I would have gone up to Bailey Gooda for example and told him he was a disgrace. The same applies to any of the players involved in our recent great away run. Calling them a disgrace online is no different to calling them a disgrace to their faces and those lads simply don’t deserve it after the way they have performed this season.

On the injuries, surely the extraordinary timing of the substitutions serves to give an indication to the severity of the circumstances? The management won’t have wanted to bring them off and viewed from the terraces Chris Machin has never previously appeared particularly risk averse in his recommendations. Both players are under pressure for their places from Burgess and Lofts respectively and both have played on with knocks already this season. Are you suggesting that in those circumstances they chose to come off because they simply didn’t fancy playing?

I get your frustration. I get that the long journey back from a disappointing away game can give that frustration chance to come to the boil. At some point though in the next 10 years we’ll find ourselves having a bad season and a desperate manager will bring in a player who properly can’t be arsed (Jack Barlow anyone). I’ll still have “disgrace" left in my armoury for that day when it’s truly merited, rather than hyperbolically wasting it by getting a single bad day out of proportion.

Give them a break Geoff, they’ve earned it and they will come good again.

Not everyone can be this silly but it is nice to see so many trying.

By your comments concerning injuries ,you definitely didn’t go to the game .,non of the two injured limped or were carried off to not wait 5 & 3 minutes to see the extent of said injuries seems to me as bullshit. Yesterday we had no midfield , and what great defending for there goal . If not for Tommy in the last few games out clean sheets would be non existent.and I will say back four are not good enough.

….others wouldn’t have been able to deduce from my comments on the injuries that I wasn’t at the game.
Admittedly they could have fallen back on my actually saying “I wasn’t there today Geoff" but we can’t all solve the crimes in Scooby Doo the way that you do.

I wasn’t at the game, however if I had been it wouldn’t have changed matters. I lack the medical skill to fully diagnose an onfield injury from the distance of a football terrace.
That you are able to make such an insightful diagnosis and prognosis and seek to overrule an experienced, qualified sports medical professional is wholly to your credit and doesn’t leave you in any way open to ridicule.

Might I suggest that you offer your services to the club. We can let that charlatan Machin go and ensure that our fraudulent disgraceful players with their bullshit injuries are back on their feet in no time at all.

Go for it Geoff, your club needs you!

My first hand views of it:

Brooksby took a knock early on and clearly was struggling. He tried to run it off but couldn’t so got replaced.

Killer - had a problem with his hamstrings. As league is clearly priority, it’s obviously better to take him off rather than risk him being out for longer, especially with Kev struggling recently.

It’s not soft, it’s not a disgrace, it’s injury management. Apparently that’s quite a big deal these days.

The League is the crucial thing - winning cups isn’t going to get us promoted. They’re just an injury risk to players, as well as a physical drain. The prize money for winning this one is ‘peanuts’.

Hi everyone

I remember on here a while ago we had the idea that if we could not attend the match for non financial reasons then we could donate to the club the entrance fee?

Think we should maybe bring that back, 40/50 tenners every week will certainly help towards the total?

I’ve just donated £60 for this month (granted it should be £70 but pay day is Wednesday)

pre FLS i was a donater when the call went out and frequently banged the drum, since then however i have stopped donating for a couple of reasons. the club is now an established commercial enterprise and should nt be asking for tenners here and fivers there. the business now has significant income and expenditure prudent management of that should be the way forward ( i fully accept and support the herculean efforts of those financial jugglers getting us here and keeping us moving forward) and finally the shared ownership seems from my perspective to be slowly slipping away from the prominence it once had and the fan base seems to have shifted away from those rose tinted days of the ncel.

They are promised on Friday 2nd Nov, which gives members two weeks to peruse & analyse the figures. Is this sufficient time? More pertinently, is there a defined period ahead of our AGM’s that paperwork - including accounts - has to be circulated? Is this is in the Society rules somewhere?

As ever not sure why this has to be posted on surfing seadog when, all that has been sent out to members makes it clear of the channels of communication.

There is no deadline as to when documents have to be available before the AGM but I have strived to get them out 4 weeks before, there was a commitment at a previous AGM a few years ago to try and do this.

For most people 2 weeks is more than enough to go through the accounts.

I chose to post this query on Surfing Seadog because it is a public forum that fans read, and I wanted to start a discussion in the open. I wasn’t looking for an official response from you or the board at this stage. Regardless of the clear channels of communication that you might include in emails to Society members, I am free to discuss Society matters wherever I see fit, be that on the terrace at a match, or on this forum. I do not want or need to be admonished by you as to where and when I should start discussions of this nature.

However, you have chosen to respond, for which I thank you, but without answering my initial question…

Given that the club has previously committed to getting AGM papers out 4 weeks ahead of the meeting, I ask again: is there any particular reason why the draft accounts have not been circulated along with the other AGM papers?

Yes there is Simon. We are volunteers doing full time day jobs and then putting our spare time in running a football club. A club which is currently top of the evo stik premier division and very close to putting a very detailed planning application into SBC for a proposed ground expansion.
On top of that we are helping make the club work day to day.

Trust members will receive the accounts very soon.

I am sure you can understand having done the job for sometime the stress and workloads this can put on people.

I myself are going through quite a few issues at the moment part caused by “my affair" with the club.

Anyone know anything about SK’s comment in the SN video interview about sacking all of his backroom staff?

I assumed it was a joke, but there was no follow-up explanation of why he was alone on the bench last night?

A decent “source" I heard said that Steve Roberts couldn’t get away from work in time and Hume & Morgan were both ill (might also explain his absence from the bench in recent teamsheets)

Outstanding performance last night - real team effort. Everyone put in a shift. Walshaw was fantastic, doing the dirty work, irritating the defenders, getting in dangerous positions and being an all round pain. Gooda was immense in the air and on the deck, and Lacey had a great game - so solid.

Thought Lofts looked good when he came on - didn’t get any chances to show what he is like as a finisher, but had some very neat touches and seemed like a clever player. Thought it a bit odd to bring a striker on for Cadman when we were 1-0 up, but it worked.

4 of Warrington’s 5 games in hand are away games, which makes it interesting too. Of the top half they’ve played Farsley (L), Stalybridge (D), South Shields (W) and Whitby (W). All but Whitby were home games.

Posted: 22/10/2018 at 18:50:06, 2033 views.

An enormous amount of volunteer effort has recently been put into preparatory work for a new stand at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

This evening we have launched a crowdfunding campaign to help with up-front design, survey, and planning costs associated with this stand.

Here is a link to our crowdfunding page, which includes further information and a video of Chairman Trevor Bull explaining why the club is doing this campaign and how it will help the club going forward >> https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/newstand

We would appreciate any contribution you can make and would also be grateful if you could share this post and our future posts about the campaign.

Up the Boro!

Uploading the highlights to YouTube is a godsend. I can follow it all from afar, and can feel a part of it (a little bit, anyway).

One question though. What’s with the Walshaw ‘waste of money’ chant? Obviously meant to be ironic, but where did it come from?

I remember an opposition fan (might have been Farsley Arkan but can’t be sure on that) posting on here that we’d unwisely blown too much of our playing budget on Walshaw. Maybe that’s what prompted it?

Posted: 21/10/2018 at 18:24:07, 312 views. In reply to 'As a far-away seadog, thanks to SAFC tv. '

This song was definitely one of Snainton’s (although obviously it has been used elsewhere before such as Shearer at both Blackburn and Newcastle).

At the end of last season Boro were warming up in front of the shed doing that regular routine where they play a one-two with Steve Roberts or Mark Hume and take a shot.
After other Boro players had scored Walshaw ran up and put his shot over the bar and out of the ground.

Snainton started the chant of “What a waste of money".

It got repeated when he went up for his medal and we’ve gone for it every time he has scored since.

Not everyone can be this silly but it is nice to see so many trying.
