Chants for tomorrow and Tuesday by Ben Kitching User: Ben Kitching

Posted: 12/10/2018 at 16:19:40, 207 views.

I posted a few ideas for fresh chants in pre season in the hope that one or 2 of them might make the rounds when the season commenced. I haven’t heard any of them yet. I’m the 1st to admit that I’m not always the most vocal fan at games, I have my moments but don’t really have the kahuna’s to set of chants, but if any of you that do fancy taking any of the following up tomorrow or Tuesday or both, you would make my day/s. I think having a good array of chants can only strengthen our connection (as fans) to the players, and intimidate our opposition further. I’m not saying what we do is bad, but I am thinking of FC United in pre season and their chants. They had loads and some were quite complex, witty and strong, I and many others were in awe, and deposits it being a friendly, I have never heard our fans so quiet in the shed, our small base of generally one, two and 3 word chants just couldn’t compete. Maybe we need to get our heads together and come up with some absolute belters. Here are a couple of simple-ish ideas anyway, and as I say, I’d be made up of I heard one of these tomorrow:

To the tune ‘Wild Thing’ - Troggs

‘Wild things, you make our hearts sing, you make everything, GROOVY, oh BORO we know we love you, so score us a goal WALSHAW!’

To the tune ‘Let it be’ - Beatles

‘Wayne Brooksby, Wayne Brooksby, Wayne Brooksy, oh Wayne Brooksby, ghosting past defenders, Wayne Brooksby!’

To the tune ‘que sera’

‘Oh Gooda Gooda, whatever will be will be, the future is ours Bailey, of Gooda, Gooda!’

To the tune ‘Clementine’

‘Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling VALENTINE, we were lost but then we found you, oh my darling VALENTINE!’

To the tune ‘Batman’

‘Du du du du du du du du du du du du du du du du CADMAN!’

See you all tomorrow

Haha, well if any of them get used I’d be chuffed, the Gooda, Walshaw and Valentine ones are definitely the most tongue in cheek. Whether any of those particular chants are used or not though, my point is, that it would not hurt to be a little more inventive with a song or 2. FC United had a song to the tune of ‘Waterfall’ by the Stone Roses which had a lot of lyrics that they obviously had to learn and they were all well versed in. It demonstrates their connectedness. The fact that it wasn’t simple made it all the more impressive and almost silenced our fans for long periods of the game because we didn’t have anything clever enough reply to it. I’m not saying simple chants are not effective, they are, just that one or 2, long, well thought through songs are effective, and can silence opposition fans!

newspapers are a thing of the past i’m afraid and the production of them against what you make off them is just bad business.

online stuff costs much much less.

they are all a sham anyway unlesss reporting on real events. OG i know you are massive lefty so will only read the mirror so it might be nice to get some perspective now and again ;)

Don’t read The Mirror by Old Git

Posted: 11/10/2018 at 14:45:43, 178 views. In reply to 'RE: along with The Scotsman'

But we still need a proper Press even though online dominates.

I read online news from around the UK, dozens of sites on a daily basis
but they all suffer from burn-out eventually, and some are a joke, claiming to represent a city
or region when they just lift reports and articles from other sites and little from the area
they purport to cover. Advertising dominates and is increasing so online sites are just full of
‘reality TV & soaps’ promoted as news.
This kills community news, a cornerstone of local democracy.
Areas of society are completely ignored, not reported about and not promoted
so a vacuum develops that leaves people without the ability to express themselves,
develop an opinon or contribute to society. All the benefits provided by a good local news service.
Ignorance is the biggest enemy of democracy.
I used to work for Reuters so I know how important news & information is
and without it how individuals & groups can become isolated, disenfranchised and alienated from life.
Maybe Athletic should buy the rights to the name ‘Scarborough Evening News’ as we are a ‘community’ organisation.

Anyway 3 points on Saturday will be bloody useful and I know I’ll get that important news.

The Scarborough News site has become a bit of a nightmare in recent months/years. I know it has to pay its way but you end up with more adverts than actual content at times. Take SK’s column which Martin posted a link to. At the top is a (video and audio) advert for getting a free sky movie when you collect 4 promotional packs of something, below that is an advert which flashes and doesn’t stay on the same bit long enough to work out what it’s for - something to do with skills.
Then the article gets underway, (although before it does there’s an advert for Oreos underneath Kittirick’ picture). After the byline there is a promotional feature from American Express, then the article actually does start. 4 lines later there’s a “promoted by British Business bank" advert and then 4 sentences later a Jet2Holidays advert. 4 further sentences, and another Jet2Holidays advert (Groundhog day). After the next sentence is a link to the TSN news article about it being time to support our shops. Fair enough but why put it at that point in the article. At the end of the article is (you guessed it) another Jet2Holidays advert. Seven more large adverts for various things then fill the rest of the page. That’s not mentioning anything down the left or right hand sides!!

Give me the SAFCTV highlights any day. Bizarrely the fact the Mainline ad is included as part of the actual video (and so you could in theory skip through it) means I never do and always treat it as part of the package. It never feels as intrusive as all the Scarborough news adverts

Ironic isn’t it, that the advertising in which the site needs to survive, is in fact the very thing that is suffocating it. Whoever came up with that plan needs to actually try and use the site. Its why I never go on.

If you could identify a key partner to advertise, lower the amount of time needed to load pages or even just scroll through an article and you’re onto a winner.

Well done Stalybridge Celtic Directors by mrs trellis User: mrs trellis

Posted: 9/10/2018 at 23:58:13, 345 views.

Thanks also to the directors of Stalybridge Celtic football club. By not over-reacting in any way, by say, comically wasting their own money to bring in stewards from Oldham Athletic, sacrificing hundreds of pounds of bar revenue and boycotted programmes, and having to open extra turnstiles the SCFC Directors successfully ensured that the forecast bloodbath was averted.

While at first, second and thirty seventh glances the untrained layman might have looked at the evidence and realised that tonight was more likely to play out like last Tuesday at Mickleover than Kenilworth Road 1985, these visionaries spotted the potential powder keg. Using the skill and judgment of Jeremy Hunt and the rational, fact based analysis of a less able Deal or No Deal contestant these people got it right tonight and they can be justifiably proud that they have saved us all from an unthinkable disaster.

When will Messrs Bull, Firman, Davison et al stop messing about and start adopting this sort of forward thinking decisiveness rather than simply dismissing it as pouring hundreds of pounds away with panicky, knee jerk idiocy.

By segregating the crowd, the Directors of SCFC definitely didn’t score a massive own goal by missing out on a pay day, unnecessarily spending their own money and ensuring that all the Boro fans were together under one roof creating a brilliant Boro atmosphere at one end of the ground. Well done guys, mission accomplished. I’m sure your dedicated volunteers and fundraisers can’t wait to go out and get some more cash for you to wisely administer.

Man of the Match - All of them! by mrs trellis User: mrs trellis

Posted: 9/10/2018 at 23:27:27, 182 views.

Boro were superb tonight in an amazing game and every one of them put in a shift.

World class save in the second half from Tom diving full length to his left to push the ball out for a corner in front of the celebrating home fans.
Mezza and Lacey covered miles tracking their man, getting in vital challenges and then getting forward.
Burgess and Gooda so strong and composed against a very dangerous SCFC forward line.
Dean excellent as ever and Scott, for all his previous misfortune, both battled exceptionally hard tonight against a strong capable opposition midfield.
Valentine brave, in both going in for the challenge where he got a nasty head injury, and carrying on afterwards - and a brilliantly timed run and finish for the second goal.
Brooksby and Coulson both so clever on and off the ball constantly offering a varied threat. Coulson with the brilliant ball in for the second goal and Brooksby always eager to lend a hand right to the end.
Walshaw, again working hard, so smart in getting the free kicks to take the pressure off and the fantastic finish for the first goal.

Also fair play to Niall Flint who took the time to applaud the Boro fans at the end.

The team, the management, the board and all the volunteers who works so hard to make sure that our club can have nights like this should all be very, very proud of themselves tonight.
Thank you all.

Not everyone can be this silly but it is nice to see so many trying.

3 - 2 away mid week at fifth placed Stalybridge is a real result… KitKat on fire.. still conceding but thankfully filling the onion bag at the other end..:)

Now we need a big vocal non-league day crowd to cheer the table-toppers to a first ever home win against Bamber Bridge. I notice Warrington got another win and yet ANOTHER clean sheet, that’s just 3 goals conceded in 11 league games for them, crazy stuff.
