fine margins again by Cynic

Watching the excellent footage I think we owe the ref one, some refs would have shown a red card for the pen.

Pretty sure with the new laws they wouldn’t. Isn’t it now that is the goalkeeper/ defender attempts to play the ball but gives away a foul in the box (resulting in a penalty), there is no double punishment. Just a yellow and a pen (as was the case).

You’re probably right (and glad the ref thought that way) but have seen less violent looking challenges given reds.

I think Ayton is right, and remember in the NRSC final the Middlesbrough keeper wasn’t shown a red either (for the same reason). Saying that, knowing our luck I wouldn’t have been surprised if we had a ref who didn’t apply the “new" version of the laws properly. Thankfully we didn’t.

The key to understanding the difference is… by seadogx

Posted: 5/9/2018 at 20:26:13, 178 views. In reply to 'fine margins again'

Did the player intend to go for the ball?

DOGSO is not always a red as in pre 2017, it depends on where the foul was committed and whether the referee deemed the committing player to be intending to go for the ball.

On this occasion it is inside the box, potentially DOGSO however with players covering however Tommy clearly made intentions for he ball. If such foul was committed outside the penalty area and referee deemed it as DOGSO, it could have been a darker coloured card to match our home shirt!

But doesn’t dangerous play constitute a red card (if deemed so) regardless of goal scoring opportunity and position on field?

refs rarely seem to consider dangerous play when it comes to challenges by keepers, there was one on coulo in the 2nd half that would have been frowned upon has it been committed by an outfield player

It is deemed:
-Careless
-Reckles
-With excessive force

All together, it should be deemed as a red in the opinion of the referee.

Agree with Burniston, his class and movement off the ball was the main reason why Boro dominated the second half. His pass to Brooksby and the 3rd goal was superb.
Not a fan of Annan, but he made a great contribution when he came on, and took pressure off Walshaw and Coulson. Finally not impressed with some of the ref’s decision
What actually determines a back-pass to the keeper, as it happened twice last night and the ref waved play on. ?

I’m a fan of Cadman. He’s clearly a very talented player. But as a midfielder shouldn’t he be scoring a few more goals than he gets?

I don’t know how many appearances he made for us last season but he only scored in one game - the FA Cup replay at Stratford. Maybe he has played fewer games than I think he did (can someone enlighten us with his appearances stat?).

it was noticeable the season before last that when he signed, the team looked better straightaway. Didn’t we sign him and then straightaway went on that 158 match unbeaten run which ended up with the play-offs?

pretty sure it was the “teriffic trio" of signings (James Cadman, Joe Green and Dom Roma) which propelled us on that “158-match" unbeaten run as you so eloquently, and hyperbolically put it. So yes he was partly to blame, I mean thank.

You’re right in that Cadman’s joining the team was one of the catalysts for that amazing run at the end of the season.

But I seem to think he was actually injured for quite a significant part of the run in. Don’t think he was part of the wins at Bamber or Colwyn Bay for example. From memory, I think that was a midfield of Nelthorpe - A Bolder - Price - Murray?

Didn’t he make his comeback as a second half sub in the playoff game against Ossett when we were already 3-1 down?

And correct about Green and Roma making the difference - they were a cut above. Green spent last season in the conference with Guiseley, and Roma was part of the Evo-Stik South winning Basford team. I’d add Hazel to that as well - he had a great season last year with Frickley. Kittrick’s signings during the second half of that season were bang on.

Without knowing which games he played and didn’t play (which I have no record of whatsoever) it would be an impossible task. Although somebody may have access to such information…

In the “good old days" we used to get those end of season booklets didn’t we detailing all the matches and who played in them etc etc.

The game of 2 halves by Old Git

Posted: 4/9/2018 at 21:55:41, 193 views.

First half we were hardly in it.
Couldn’t win the ball, they got the pen and Tommy booked.
Cadman was everywhere, thought we’d slipped his twin on as well/
The sub at half-time changed things plus when I got behind the fence at shed end
I could really feel the chilly wind blowing towards Seamer.
We dominated 2nd half the way they did the first.
Will Annan , on at half-time really started to worry Ferriby defenders, first Boro player to
beat defenders, one & two then putting the ball over, Dave Merris got into it more
and he put over some lovely crosses and the chances came and went.
The wind now in Boro’s favour and finally after a scramble
and multiple shots were blocked we finally equalised.
Missed our 2nd goal as I’d changed my position, big mistake but I was freezing.
but it had been coming and then at the death out 3rd.
So a good win but a dire first half for Boro fans but I really feel the wind played a part.
Ferriby really didn’t threaten 2nd half, much like us in the first.

plus 1 more as I could only get there by the interval and nobody counted me in.

I asked how it was going and all I got was dismal faces & we were rubbish with them all over us and 1 nil down. I sat down with hope and saw a brilliant display by every one of our players & we hardly ever got out of the Ferriby half. I couldn’t believe how they could possibly be all over us as we made them look very ordinary. Not only did we make a great comeback to win easily in the end, me & my mate won the Golden Gamble. About time as well because we haven’t won it for about a year :) Well done Gordon, the winning run returns. (that’s 11 times now).

Great win guys well done & great attitude in 2nd half. Well played in particular to Wayne Brooksby & congratulations to James Cadman on MoM.

We really were that poor in the first half Burniston, as well as more width in the 2nd due to Annan coming on, we had a massive turnaround in pace/energy/aggression as in the first we had been very lethargic (the goalie’s injury after the first goal didn’t do us any harm either).

Weird scenes in the Turnbull Ground by Old Git

Posted: 4/9/2018 at 17:13:32, 248 views.

I sat behind a couple of Whitby stewards on Saturday while I read my Prog
and they were talking about the 4 fans banned after the contretemps at the local derby game last week.
Then they swirtched to the next derby, at their place, on New Year’s Day.
‘Don’t know how we’ll deal with all those from Scarborough on New Years Day’.
Yeah, they’ll bring loads, how will we cope’
‘We’ll need a long line of Portaloos’.

Anyway I moved on at that insightful comment.
I need to know, when we’ve played at Whitby in cup competitions have our fans crapped everywhere?
Cos to be honest Whitby have had some big crowds over the years and been on TV
but the terraces at the Turnbull Ground being drenched in human waste is something that
was never featured in the media reports.

“Just look at his face! just look at his face!" would present a whole new image if it was
“Just look at his faeces! Just look at his faeces!"
Soon to be followed by a ‘Turd of the month’ competition.
Anyway onwards and upwards, or should that be outwards?

3 Points from tonight’s meeting with North Ferriby would be very useful,
as would watertight Wellies if you intend walking around at
Flamingo Land Stadium. I’m sure we don’t need Portaloos but best be safe, hey!

Part and parcel of football at any professional and semi-professional level no matter how much of a boro lad he is. Teams go up leagues, improve personnel to compete and it means players not quite up to the grade have to move on.
Shame he’s going as I know he loved playing for boro but I was surprised he signed on at the beginning of the season given he didn’t get too much game time last year. With new midfielders signing it was only a matter of time before he left.

good luck anyway Jimmy

they are on a bit of an adventure this season.
No one gives them much chance.
A ‘few’ old mates there who know Jimmy & how to use him.
Chance for building some real team spirit and enjoy the football.
So not much pressure, fans behind you.

Whereas Whitby have been stuck in this league,
still struggling to make a mark, biggish ground with
hardly any more fans than the Pikes
Not a good atmosphere plus regular trips over the Yorks Moors
in winter. Nah, Pikes everytime for me.

What a win by seadog365 User: seadog365

Hyde as we all know were unbeaten at Ewen Fields in league games since Noah was on his ark (or at least for about 17 months anyway) so we knew what a tough ask it would be. Even at 2-0 up I’d still have taken a draw, but when we went 3-0 up it was dreamland, and only a win would do! But typically Hyde roared back like tigers and make life very very difficult for our long-suffering fans. It was torture at time, but we held on and got the 3 points. Just about!!

I blame that torturous last 20 mins entirely on Steve Smith and his “I love a crisis" tweet!

Well Martin Dowey said on YCR that he was 100% sure it should be Cadman’s goal (and that’s who the league site have down as the scorer). But reading his match report he says it came off Coulson’s shoulder so surely Coulo will still try to claim it?

Inconclusive but does look like Coulo tried to head it……

No doubt about the first goal though! Absolute screamer.

Coulo officially did try to claim it (see his twitter). Not sure what the dubious goals panel will do.

Who actually has the final say at this level?

Not sure, but tbh a deflected goal like that proving eventually to be the winner does have some poetic justice cos I seem to remember Hyde’s opener last season being a horrible deflection wrong-footing Tommy.

Five out of the top 6 teams lost (only Gainsborough picked up points with a home win against Lancaster City).

Gainsborough now 3 points clear at top on 12.

Tuesday’s fixtures by Armchairdog User: Armchairdog

Top 3 teams all have tough away games on Tuesday night. We play North Ferriby (at home) - who were hammered 5-0 at home today.

So great chance to narrow the gap again on those at the top of the table.
