Agreed, league is the priority. With Thornaby standing between us and the Final we should give it a reasonable go in that one, but I for one wouldn’t be upset if we played a number of the U19s in the Doodsons game on that Thursday night. Who knows, some of them might turn out to be heroes like that time we beat Long Eaton against the odds (and lost to Thackley 6-0 in the next round!)

Well there we are. We’ve reached the point of no return, we literally can’t afford any more postponements now! Not unless we want to be denied promotion through fatigue!

Affecting the whole league, surely the common sense thing is to extend the season, highly unfair to expect semi pro players to play four games in 8 days to finish the season on time

Just a blip in our promotion charge. by Aylesbury Seadog

Posted: 3/3/2018 at 19:07:43, 178 views. In reply to 'warming up Sunday n/t'

We’ve given the “Beast From The East” the boot now. Fixture backlogs apply to all the teams now, so there’s no need to worry about fatigue in our remaining busy schedule.

Near Aylesbury, we’ve been down to -12C this week with three foot snow drifts and on Thursday the maximum temperature didn’t exceed -5C after a low of -9.5C in a strong easterly wind. Not much fun in a Victorian house with single glazed windows, no wall insulation as no cavity and sloping ceiling only insulated above the top flat bit. Woke up Thursday morning to frozen windows and a dusting of snow on the windowsill which had blown through the window gaps in the blizzard!

How cold did it get in Scarborough in Celsius?

Yes I think particularly Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the wind (40-50 mph) was making it feel 10 degrees colder than it “officially" was. Absolutely horrible conditions. Not quite so bad today.

From Official Site: We May Need Your Help by SAFC Admin

Posted: 1/3/2018 at 21:50:50, 165 views.

We are potentially seeking volunteers to help clear snow from the pitch and surrounding areas of the Flamingo Land Stadium on Friday afternoon to give Saturday’s game a chance of going ahead.

The club will be looking at the viability of clearing the pitch from snow in the morning and require volunteers on standby to assist clear the snow and make the ground and surrounding area safe on Friday from midday onwards subject to the morning inspection giving the go head.

If possible volunteers should bring shovels, soft brushes and wear warm clothing. Given the type of pitch we have, shovels must not be used on the pitch as damage will be caused.

The club will make an appeal late Friday morning should the initial inspection indicate the pitch could be cleared.

Think there is more snow coming up from the south tomorrow late on. All main roads in Lincolnshire appear to be closed or impassable at present if your coming up that way.

There is usually an announcement early on (9am ish) on a Sat morning if game will be off. There isn’t massive amounts of snow but its drifting and making the roads impassable.

We all think Bailey is great by the way!

If it is off, 6th March and 24th April are the only midweek dates left. I hate to say it, as I’m usually one for treating all cup competitions very seriously, but we could actually do with LOSING the doodsons cup game on the 22nd, as winning it would cause even more fixture headaches.

The Thornaby game is a different matter, as it’s the last round before the final, which would be after the season ended anyway.

I don’t mean this in an ‘arrogant, we are one of the biggest teams’ type of way, but don’t you think us, Shields and Hyde will be one of the least affected by a fixture pile up? We must have the financial capability to bring in a couple of loan players if things get desperate.

Perhaps, but geography gives Hyde and SS an advantage over us , in that there’s a much larger pool of players of a certain standard to draw from. As I’m partly ‘old school’ I’d like us to try and use what we’ve got anyway (hopefully Cadman etc will be returning from injuries also).

Yes we do have Cadman, Dean and Beadle to come back in, so midfield is arguably the part of the field where we can “get away with" perhaps a bit more rotation than in certain other areas of the field.

What is the procedure for this? Presumably you can’t just use shovels as you would with a grass pitch as it would damage it, maybe spraying it with hot/warm/lukewarm water is the way to go??

it would appear to be the solution of choice to have the roll on covers on inflatable rolls, then the snow can be cleared off it without damaging the pitch, no idea of cost but wont be cheap. I think the worst conditions are when there is a partial melt and refreeze when it would penetrate into the pitch ?

Pleased that Coulo got runner up & shame he didn’t win it but he has been a breath of fresh air to the club this year. I don’t think he has had any/many MoMs but surely he would have been closely in contention for most of our matches. I believe he has suffered on the MoM issue because people have such a high expectation of him & so tend to overlook him. (If that makes sense). He just gets on with the business.

Not so sure it’s about expectations by Cynic

Posted: 27/2/2018 at 10:20:07, 137 views. In reply to 'Well done Steve & U13s'

I’m not entirely sure about that Burniston. Coulo is arguably consistently always in the top one or two, or three performers and has scored any numberof vital goals but I don’t think he’s had that many games (of the ones I’ve seen) when he’s actually being clearly MOM. In fact, in some games he sometimes doesn’t catch the eye that much (unlike say Max Wright), however maybe that’s his strength because he’ll suddenly do something that surprises a defender who might have switched off a bit and hey presto, goal!

No doubting Kittericks record and performance this year, and good recognition for the club but I am a bit doubtful as to how this is arrived at, hes a full time employee of a professional club, most of the local club coaches in a variety of sports are working for free, giving up there spare time & often financing their own training and helping people at a grass roots enjoy and progress in there chosen sport, I suspect there are more deserving cases

Thurrock & others by Farsley Arkan User: Farsley Arkan

On a similar theme to what I was saying before about the 2018 structure, I’ve seen the people running Thurrock fc are shutting them down in the summer. A few others have issues going on too.
‘An’ Ossett is apparently going to disappear off the non-league map in the summer,
and one that will probly warm your hearts- Yorky city… sounds like that McGill fella is dangerously close to pulling the plug on them. I know how fond you all are of the KitKat gang (can’t say I’m a big fan either)… :¬)
Their supporters trust have fallen out with him & he had set them a deadline to raise money to buy part of the club off him, Which they haven’t met.

Kettering town are still struggling along somehow, and Skelmersdale +Northwich Vics also.

I’m not gloating with this. I know you suffered with this sort of thing, as have the Celts. Just worth bearing in mind/keeping an eye on these.

Bamber home to Hyde Tuesday what score would you like to see here ( that’s if it goes ahead of course) and what score do you think it will be .

I’d like to see a Bamber Bridge win. Judging by their performance on Saturday, they are certainly capable of beating anyone in this league and I think they’ll give Hyde a tough game.

I’ll predict a score draw.

Bamber win all day long. They are 7 behind us and we have them at home. Plus they have a terrible March of fixtures. Need Hyde to drop some away points!

But, the only caveat there is that if the “BEAST FROM THE EAST" causes even more fixture havoc than we’ve already had this season, and we end up getting fatigued through a horrendous run-in (and dropping more points than we might normally do) then we might be glad of the “best third place" spot, and might need Bamber Bridge to be held firmly at bay.

Hyde have 4 away games on the bounce starting tomorrow night against Bamber, they then play Atherton, Droylsden and Ossett Albion - all away so these next games will make or break their season I think. I’d like a bamber win tomorrow and then a draw when it’s hyde v bamber on 17th march.

Indeed, and compare and contrast Hyde’s home form (P17 W14 D3 L0) with their away form (P12 W5 D5 L2).

Difficult one this & we will know better at the end of the season what result would have suited us. If we want 2nd place minimum then a Bamber win but if we want to improve our chances of promotion then a Hyde win. So the latter should be the priority but then again I’d like to finish in the top 2 so let’s split the difference & say a draw would be best. It is looking very likely that the 3rd place team in our league will get automatic promotion. I don’t see why we shouldn’t be looking at winning this league - now that would be something worth celebrating. S Shields are dropping points hand over fist. At one point they must have been about 9 points ahead of us (from memory - which isn’t great) but now just 2 ahead.

so that a total of 2 points are dished out to our rivals rather than 3.

I’d be surprised if the game is on. We’ve had 2cm of snow overnight here in Bamber Bridge.

Edit - just seen on Twitter they have covers on the pitch
