Hyde utd undercover by Danae69

Posted: 11/2/2018 at 12:48:28, 233 views.

Due to postponed game at mosseley I decided to take a look at hyde utd as I had already decided to make a weekend of it in Manchester.first of all the hyde fans were very welcoming and although the crowd was only 513 their was a good little atmosphere the football was not very good to watch, colne made it difficult and seemed they were really up for an upset, chances were few for both sides and when they did they seemed to want to walk it in the net instead of shooting.I think Scarborough have progressed since they beat us and would be a different outcome if we played them again due to our steady strengthening of the team.I met some great fans and enjoyed my day out with the non league family

Even with the next round of the NRSC and League Cup thrown in, and the rearranged fixture from today added, we have four free Tuesdays.

Of course, things will get tricky if Radcliffe is called off on Tuesday (weather not looking great), and we progress into the final of NRSC and next round of the League Cup.

We may even have the difficult choice to make of having to play the League Cup on a Thursday one week, and play a very, very fringe team and risk elimination.

I wasn’t counting the week of Easter Monday, as that would mean having to fit in a Wednesday/Thursday game in there and get awkward.

The NRSC final would be after the season, so wouldn’t be an issue, but the other rounds of the Doodson (bar the final) and any further rearranged league games would exacerbate the problem ever further.

I guess the consolation is that most other teams will have similar problems. At least our home games should be ok but we would probably have a disadvantage with the extra travelling from Scarboro on a Tuesday night over to Lancashire where I think most other teams are.

Re average gates by Terry Hope

Posted: 9/2/2018 at 12:08:09, 132 views.

Following on from the recent post re recent averages gates - in old NPL 1968 to 1979 it was 1,712 (best season 2,369 / worst season 1,179), in APL/Conference 1979 to 1986 it was 1,343 (best season 2,224 / worst season just 666), in Football League from 1987 to 1999 average was 2,151 (best 3,003 / worst 1,597- season Darren Foreman started but sure that’s just coincidence), back in Conference/CNorth 1999 to 2007 average was 1,419 (best 1,782 / worst 912) and as Athletic in Brid average was 417 (best 493 / worst 333). Stats overload but it’s filled in half an hour and it shows just how good the start to this season is. Would also suggest that other than some cup games there’s not likely to be huge pressure on future ground capacity outside of any league requirements?

The Ossett?!?! by Farsley Arkan User: Farsley Arkan

Posted: 8/2/2018 at 23:08:46, 190 views.

Just seen this on here - genuinely shocked to see it. An early April Fool/prank? Clicked on the link & it looked a bit ….’thrown together’ (amateurish/hoax-like).

IF this is true then there has been a major shift in thinking in their neck of the woods. A merger has been tentatively suggested a couple of times in the past but the supporters primarily wouldn’t have it. They really don’t get on - usually their local derbies have fairly high police presences.
As has been mentioned - in theory they could sell 1 ground, and move 2 sets of supporters into 1 place. Quids in.
In reality- I would suspect all of 1 support wont accept it - Albion (for sake of argument) taking the huff & forming a new club of their own - like the Emley folk did when they got re-branded. (A slightly different situation granted, but an example). And it might even alienate some of the remaining club support. I can’t picture 400 Ossetters standing shoulder-to-shoulder supporting the red &yellows. With these things it’s nearly always a de facto takeover- just not sure which is doing the taking. Think Albion have some new money come in, so it could be him doing a Max Griggs (Rushden & Ds).
A real eyebrow -raiser.

The Ossett?!?! by Burniston User: Burniston

Some fair points. I just remember when a group of people formed Scarbro Town & the obvious reluctance of certain members to participate in any form of merger. It became very divisive. Even when Town were wound up, I suspect (but don’t know) that most of their ‘people’ will not have anything to do with Athletic. That would be silly if it was the case after all these years & hope the old ‘Town’ faithfull are now behind the towns SAFC.
We’re in it together.

Sensible decision in such a small town. Good luck to them. Could be a force to be reckoned with if they keep hold of both fanbases. Might see frequent crowds of 400+.

the slope at Town’s ground
and judging from satellite images there seems to be more room
for development than at Town’s ground.
And with the cricket ground next door, that area could become a real
focus for sport in the area.
No doubt all this has been part of their discussions as well as
what to call the club, Ossett United?

and Town’s seems worse and one thing I’d forgotten
is the partly obscured view at Town’s ground
when on the Bar side and down at the bottom end
with that little bit of covered area that means you
have to lean over the fence to see the top corner flag on that side.
Bigger crowds would mean more people stretching to see t’other
end of pitch.

Its very clear, the bigger the crowds, the longer we can keep these guys.

I think someone should invest in a huge loud speaker, strap it to the roof of their car and drive around the town promoting the next home match, like on The Blues Brothers film.

Yeah, in other words if nobody turned up to any of the remaining home games (don’t try this at home kids, I’m not advocating it!) then we’d still finish with our highest ever average crowd since we were (re)formed.

for promotion is looking strongly to be from our league. IE. Boro, Hyde or Bamber. One of those will be promoted as 2nd place anyway. In other words it will be any 2 from 3 and the one missing out still has the chance in the playoffs so could theoretically be all 3

I expect 4 teams to go up from our league by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

Looking around the tables, we have definitely got the strongest top four.

Even if one of them drops off, I think it’s odds on that our 3rd placed team will top the “best 3rd place table", meaning 4th-7th take part in the playoffs for a fourth promotion spot.

We shouldn’t rest on our laurels of course, and the top two should be our aim, but given our PPG ratio, I think even 3rd would be enough for us.

Shields are a very good side at this level, but you do have a good point.

Given the turn-over in players at most clubs in our division what matters is current form rather than looking back over 20-odd games and extrapolating PPG from those games - Shields wiped the floor with us twice early in the season , how relevant is that now to the current relative strengths of the two teams ?

Absolutely Armchair. I was really looking at it from current places. To be honest, with the points recently that SS have dropped and with their current injury problems the thought has crossed my mind, especially on how we have clawed them back over the last 2 months. Winning this league is not out of the question.
