I have said on numerous posts that we needed some decent defenders.,we had one poser who gifted them there 1st goal and another player who looked to have had too many portions off Xmas pudding..

The “poser" who made the mistake for the first goal has generally been one of our best players since he signed a year ago, his signing in the summer was greeted with near universal acclaim, and he will be badly missed during his suspension.

Best team over whole 90 mins won. We missed chances to win game in first half and gifted them equaliser (Burgess? Couldn’t see definitely). Walshaw going off was deciding factor (and wind that got up more in 2nd half) as we had little cohesion after that.

Signed to many players recently of lesser quality, wont ever drop his front 2, never plays the same side always chops and changes. The best opportunity was in November when we were clear to get 2 players in with real quality to compete with coulson and walshaw to help them and let them sit out now and again. We needed another defender. Not another midfielder.. I notice today our loan signings were on the bench or not in the squad.. tells me there not good enough… am tired of excuses come on SK own it and your recent decision making on and off the field.

Err, well they’d be wrong. Evenish first half with us having better chances. SS better than us in 2nd half ( as per first post, wind probably more relevant - esp in 2nd half - than you might realise from some areas in ground)

It was a very even game between two good sides, but our defeat today hurts more/seems worse due to the bad run of form we’ve been on. We badly need a win at Whitby who would love nothing more than to turn us over. Pressure really on now.

If we are to be doing anything in this league we win our home games to many times this season we been beaten at home. Add to this we don’t help ourselves by signing dross.. I won’t have this we doing well it’s a new league business, we had a great opportunity to take the initiative we failed to do this. This is SK team his signings we have a great following but teams around us on lot less are progressing and able to beat us.. nullify our forward line and we are an ordinary team.

He gets grief for chopping and changing, and dropping any of the lads who got us promoted, but our starting line up today contained ten players who started the season with us (seven of whom won promotion with us last season). I think that even when we were top Kittrick identified that it was a false position and that we were in, and that our squad wasn’t strong enough to sustain a title challenge. Those players were restored today - something that the boo boys have been requesting for weeks - yet we still lost.

Perhaps the execution has been slightly off and the signings between Gainsborough away and now have not set the world alight, but I think he is right to keep trying to strengthen the midfield.

Also, moaning that he won’t drop either of the front two is crazy. Coulson had scored four in four during December, and Walshaw is pretty much the best striker in the league. Giving them a rest occasionally is a different matter, but your suggestion to drop them? Really?

But nonetheless we have been beaten at home by the top teams recently and given what was a promising position away by signing dross when we need not bother.. we are a well supported club with resources far above our rivals yet we signed players no where good enough.. we needed 2 quality players at the same level as walshaw to maintain our promotion push yet we sign well below the level required that is down to SK

Do we have resources ‘far above our rivals’? On attendances alone South Shields are our betters. As some other clubs are supported by sugar daddies then how does our budget compare? Can you give any actual figures?

I feel that the initial chopping and changing was unnecessary (why change a winning formula?) and my personal opinion is that the recent additions are no better than what we already have and in some cases are not as good. I think that we are weaker in somebody defensivel areas and so should have strengthened more in that area than in midfield. Also, like today, we have a tendency to default to playing the long ball and so miss out playing in the midfield anyway.

it would be interesting to know what your original prediction would be and why you assume we have a much better playing budget etc, you forget that we have had to dish out for the new stand because we only raised about half of what was needed. Do you really think any sensible chairman will let a manager use the contingency?

So because we didnt dig deep enough the playing budget will suffer.

now, I have no figures on what it is before after and predicted to be but neither have you Joe. You are assuming we are a ‘big club’ Cant be a big club with 10 year existence. We just have a good support.

FYI my aim for the season was top 10 and still is and always was. You need to check the reality of the situation and hopefully you will be much less angry.

Shocking today! by Aylesbury Seadog

Posted: 26/12/2018 at 17:18:04, 120 views. In reply to 'FT: Boro 1-3 South Shields'

We were second best from the outset today - South Shields looked like they’d gone ahead inside a minute in the first half. Despite Boro initially going ahead, with Shields grabbing an equaliser on half-time, it soon became obvious that another surrender was on the cards. Some serious questions have to be asked:

Firstly, when the other team’s awarded a set piece such as a free-kick, why on earth aren’t we marking? Our players, in retreating, give their player taking it a free reign on goal.

Secondly, why are we pratting about kicking the ball back to keeper Taylor when it would be much better to get on with a quick attack on goal? Moving slowly enables their defence to regroup.

Lastly, why have our defenders simply given up on tackling? In doing so, we’re allowing the other team a free reign in the box.

Today’s Game by Tommy Wooton

Posted: 22/12/2018 at 20:28:51, 221 views.

Despite the pitch being a heavy bog, ironically I saw more football played today than in the last few weeks combined, so that’s a positive. I always really admire our grit and determination, but there is a fine line between battling and spoiling for a fight. It was a very bad tempered affair throughout and one which we bought in to whole heartedly, and which ultimately cost us 2 red cards. We were a bit vulnerable down our right side at times, but that’s understandable as Johnson has been out for a while. Merris was played in midfield- was he a detriment? No. Did he provide something special or different? No. What was the thinking behind it? Don’t really know. Substitutions were effective.
The outcome was a little fortuitous, but who gives a damn - we won! And 3 points is 3 points.

Not sure how many he hasn’t scored in now but quite a few.
He’s here to do his job… Score goals.
On his alleged money can we afford to keep him ?
I get what he brings to the team and what he’s capable of…..but…. He’s not scoring is the bottom line and that is his job…. Same as TT has his job..
Hope he scores this half but if he doesn’t…how long ?

Seriously? This has to be a wind up.

If memory serves me correctly, he joined in November last year (scoring on debut).

So, he’s been with us just over a year and, if my maths is correct, he’s scored approx 38 in about 59 competitive games. And he doesn’t normally take penalties - which would further improve that strike rate (Coulo has scored 10 pens during that time). If you add in other games he must be closing in on 50 goals in a Boro shirt in little over a year. No mean feat. I rest my case M’lord.

Interesting Fendog that I don’t remember you asking the same question about Coulo when he wasn’t even getting a sniff whilst Wally was scoring 10 or 11 in the same amount of games. That scenario has swapped now with Coulo scoring as Wally has a dry spell. Even if he doesn’t score the work he puts into to every game creating chances and hassling defenders is immense. Plus with every game in which he fails to score you know a bag full of goals is just around the corner!

So why abuse me.
This is a forum..yes ? About having thoughts and opinions.
I refer to comments made by the manager about TT just doing his job when saving penalties etc.
So I ask this. What is Wally’s job ? Is he doing it ?
If his “job" is to occupy the opposition back line and win free kicks, yes he’s doing it. If it is to score goals, no he isn’t.
I throw it out for discussion. Not to receive abuse.

Would be nice to give Walshaw a rest now and again though. He’s not a spring chicken.

Maybe a new tactical formation for the new year.. hope this signing is a better addition than his last few signings.. should be reverting back to our original midfield at the start of the season. Am not sure what SK is doing at the moment some really strange decisions and if I was Valo and Cadman I’d be wondering what’s going on?

Not sure many understand what’s going on really. However, it is largely irrelevant that he continues to bring in more midfielders if we play like we have for the past few weeks - just booting the ball high and long misses out the midfield anyway. Let’s hope he’s got some cunning plan that will see us back to winning ways.

Notice they mention the New Years Day match but don’t bother to mention we have played one another since that incident in a segregated match with no trouble.
