This week’s games of import by Tree User: Tree

Posted: 15/4/2018 at 15:55:14, 86 views.

Monday
Cambridge City (max 87 points) v Hanwell (19th)

Tuesday
Rushden & Diamonds (2nd) v AFC Dunstable (85)

Wednesday
Northwood (17th) v Cambridge City (87)

Thursday
AFC Dunstable (85) v Barton Rovers (21st)
Hartley Wintney (88) v Fleet Town (18th)

By my reckoning (which owes something to Malton) IF Boro win on Tuesday we will be promoted as (at least) best placed 3rd place team IF, Cambridge City fail to win on Monday or Wednesday AND Hartley Wintney lose on Thursday. If Boro win, Cambridge drop points and Hartley Wintney draw, we’d need one more point. Best get going on winning on Tuesday then.

We can delete the following twitter accounts:

- Bamber
- Prescott
- Bedworth Utd
- Potter’s Bar

Poor old Hyde will have to keep following PB and BB though.

Not much to add from what others have posted. Here’s the remnants of my spreadsheet:

Hartley & Wit 88 (4)
Cambridge C 87 (6)
Dunstable 85 (5)
Frickley Ath 84 (6)
Cray Wand 84 (2)
Greenwich 84 (2)
Corinthians 84 (3)
Hayes & Ye 83 (2)

and potentially, R&D 91 (4) could yet be dragged into it by a Hartley unbeaten run.

I think we’ll have to wait until at least Saturday despite all the exciting SE midweek fixtures. I reckon Hartley will win all four, but go up automatically.

Because Dunstable can only get 85, we want them to BEAT Rushden and Diamonds, in order that their overall available points drops to 88 (seeing as they still have to play Cambridge)

On reflection the Brighouse player may have timed his pass perfectly and you are not after all “a total incompetent who had forgotten where the goalkeeper was".

Still summer’s coming and I can now devote my attention to giving LBW decisions from square leg.

All bodes well for a strong team next season allowing us to pay higher wages and getting a stronger squad, a few more wallys and coulo’s would be nice, be great to have Tyrone gay and miller at the Boro.. moving Hewitt to right back. let’s just temper this one slightly shall we.

This season we’ve had a massive pre season, loads of new sponsorships etc. We’ve now got ground developments to potential pay for, savings to build up and I’m sure there’s a long wish list of other items to allow the club progress and become stronger.

I’m sure the budget will increase, but lets keep expectations realistic!

Personally i’d take a mid to bottom half finish next season, i want to see us sustain our position at a higher level rather than exhaust ourselves climbing too fast only to fall all the way back down. 5 years at this level has given everyone involved with the club vital experience on how a club should be run, time to gain more experience at the next step.

how much of a gap is there between this level and the next? I reckon we’d be at least up in the play-offs with this team, (if we keep Max). There’s every chance that the top three next season in The Premier Division could be the same as this year in the First Division.

but not premiership to championship gap. Farsley have done well, Lancaster are mid-table. I wouldn’t begin to even speculate where we might finish, knowing our propensity to lose players left, right and centre after even successful seasons (look at Benny, Hazel, Green, Roma, Murray, A Bolder etc)

But I think under SK we can expect to do reasonably well

If we have a play off/promotion push then great, but lets do it within a realistic budget that we can sustain. i firmly believe we put more money into this campaign what with the greater opportunity of promotion and it looks to be paying off. whatever happens next season, i’m looking forward to visiting many new grounds and some we haven’t seen for a while!

Looking back they all looked really good players for us at the time, but would any of them get in this team or even on the bench? Maybe Murray, but I’m not sure about the others. Green was good but id take Taylor over him.

I’m going to speculate that we will be in the Champions League in 8 years.

Jacob Hazel has scored 33 goals in the South Div for Frickley. Probably wouldn’t relegate any of our front three to the bench, but he would definitely strengthen our team. I think Green would get into my team over Taylor - thought he was excellent last year, and he is now getting games for Guisley in the Conference.

I listen to the Evostik pod cast every week which a great listen by the way.The guys on the show reckon ourselves Shields and Hyde would be in the mix should we all go up next season.
It’s going to be interesting the way forward next season if we don’t have Max Wright. The lad must have been worth 20+ points for us this season. Would we have to change our style of play
or try and get us another winger from somewhere. I can’t recall seeing many out and out wingers this season. The Kendall winger looked useful in my opinion. Gooda and White are both excellent players,
I would love to see those two still here next season. You never know if Harrogate go up Bailey may not be part of their plans in a higher division. Jerome looks a good prospect and the new lad Dawson looks useful.
Its been a fantastic season so far……Hold tight and scream if you want to go faster……..

Higher wages by Cynic Al

One of the core objectives of the SAFC Society is

“To encourage the Club to play football at the highest level possible, but always operating within a framework of responsible and prudent financial management”.

So although, we may want to spend more money on another Coulo and/or another Wally it may not be possible. We must remember why we are where we are, that some less than prudent financial management resulted in the death of a club that had been around 125 years. Players who are on contracts receive a wage whether they are on the pitch or not, whether they are performing or not and whether the attendances are good or not. I trust those with a handle on the finances to make the correct decisions based upon our position.

If there’s one thing the fans and supporters of this club should have learnt, considering the recent past, it’s to live within means. Chasing a dream is fine, chasing it with money you don’t have is always doomed to fail. Build the club on rock, not sand. Slowly slowly catchee monkey.

Taylor is a good shot stopper but not dominant on crosses, does not dominate his box or organise the back 4 - all of which Green did last year

Instead of watching we could even play them - oh we did, and won both games with a team that most would agree is not as good as the one at the moment. The league above is not necessarily any better (some of the crowds are worse, if promoted us and SS would have the biggest crowds by a margin - probably). It’s the level after that the difference kicks in, in a big way.

Don’t think our priorities for next season should necessarily be to bring in more midfielders and above. Cadman could go back to playing right winger, as well as already having an abundance of other really good midfielders. Given that we keep Wally and Coulo, other strikers are not likely to get much of a look in anyway. I think we need to shore up the defence, particularly considering that Bailey unfortunately won’t be at the club next season.

Immediate effect according to FAW Laws,
even if it was denying a goal opp!

Players Sent-off Under Law 12 (6)

A player who is dismissed from the Field of play for Violent Conduct, Serious Foul Play or Spitting at an opponent or any other person whether they have previously been cautioned in the match or not, will be suspended automatically with immediate effect from all domestic Senior and Reserve league matches, Senior and Reserve cup matches and Senior and Reserve Open Friendly Matches (see clause 9) only, until such time as the player has missed his/her club’s next THREE (3) recognised Senior Team matches in Approved Competitions (see Appendix 2) during the period covered by its opening match and final match of the 2017/2018 Season. The terms of the suspension will be as set out under the category of a MATCH SUSPENSION (see Section 8).

Correct. Jerome looked sharp when he came on - very promising. Hopefully the video highlights will show his goal as I didn’t see much of it at the other end of the pitch.

And if you look at goals in “all competitions" then yesterday Coulo took his total to 40. So he overtook Wally who is now on 39 (18 for Boro, 21 for Farsley).

You’re right. I think I missed off the league match away at Atherton when I was counting up. So yeah 41 in league and cup. Not bad eh.

How many (league and cup) did Blotty manage in his best season for us?

in our NCEL premier promotion charge under Rudy. That was a record I didn’t expect to go (along with all his other goal scoring exploits) so unless something unusual happens like an injury or a 3 match ban, you’d think he was an almost certainty to pinch that record with 5 games still to go. And in a higher division to boot!

Has Coulo scored a hattrick this season? by seadog365 User: seadog365

With all his goals I assumed he would have done by now, but can’t think of one. Come to think of it, has anyone apart from Sinclair (against Sheffield) got one this season?!

Today we …. by Cynic Al

Secured at least a 3rd place finish.

Our win, and Bamber and Prescot both drawing means that the worst outcome possible this season is another play-off with home advantage in both games (if we got there).

Obviously, we want more than that.

Normally I’d be very worried about the “lottery" of a play-off. But if we did end up in the play-offs I’d very much fancy us with home advantage in both games against any of the teams below us.

and one more win would mean we would AT WORST start the play-offs as the team with the best PPG, meaning we’d “only" need to win our semi-final to get that lucky losers spot
