I can’t put my finger on it by Southern dog

Leon Scott seemed like a different player today. SK admitted the players lacked heart. His job to motivate. Surely players shouldn’t need motivation for a local derby.

Leon Scott looked like a different player today because he had a point to prove - Let’s be honest, against a bang average midfield we have. He was rubbish for us and still is not great. Just played well against his former team, which usually happens in those situations.

SK wore out his fingers in his post match interview. Yet again the excuses start. Sticky horrable pitch (I assume Whitby played on the same pitch ) Whitby penalty not a penalty . Same old story from a manager who is slowly getting out of his depth at this level of football.

lost 6 out of the last 7, i’m not one to usually criticise but we have been playing shite for weeks now, all the players and the management duo need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask are they good enough and are they interested enough to represent us. this is absolutely no criticism against those unpaid volunteers who run the club and who do a splendid job, this is aimed purely at the paid playing and management staff, you owe us big style, I personally will miss the next 3 games due to work, but I’ve bought a season ticket so I’ve done my bit now please do yours.

I don’t think a single player is performing particularly well at the moment (and even if it’s just some, logically it will make the others look poorer, just as others playing well can help an individual look better - does that make sense?). I don’t think Dave Merris is playing any better or worse than anyone else - in the games I’ve seen, which isn’t them all by a long way. I’d guess that we all have our favourites and those who are not and sometimes overlook the failings of the one whilst picking up on the failings of the other. Might you be doing this Borotomas? On the other hand you might be spot on - I don’t know.

It may be as simple as the other teams how worked out how to play us. We have no pace anywhere so that doesn’t bother them. They bypass midfield and a pacy forward gets behind our static defence and is in on goal. They know that most of our goals come through Coulson and Wally so they close them down. We have no plan b, no one on the bench to change our game. It doesn’t take a lot to work us out. It’s up to the management to change our approach to our game now.

I just don’t understand signing players like Watson and McGuire who don’t really improve our team. They are average at this level if you get my point - surely you want to be signing players with better quality than we have to improve the team. His signings since the start of the year haven’t really improved our quality - Lofts, Forrester, McGuire and Watson.

Full backs by borotomas User: borotomas

Posted: 2/1/2019 at 08:49:50, 159 views. In reply to 'RE: RE: Interview with SK after loss at Whitby'

He mentioned a lot of the team were passengers in he game but wouldn’t name any names which is fair enough. It’s easy to say when a player reaches a certain age and they hit bad form that ‘they’re passed it’ when that might not be the case but I’m struggling to see what Merris adds to the team at this difficult time. He’s not completing his passes, difficult when most are sent long, his clearences aren’t clear, I often see him make odd decisions such as lose possession but follow the ball and not pick up the spare man. In the bluntest possible terms, he’s been poor.
It’s clear Dave is a great guy and been brilliant around the club for a few years but I don’t think anyone should be undroppable.

Lacey hasn’t been consistent either, seems to be struggling with confidence which I’m sure they all are.

Just wondering if anyone had a different take on it?

RE Fullbacks by Stepney Seadog 1

Posted: 2/1/2019 at 21:04:18, 85 views. In reply to 'Full backs'

Sorry borotomas, can’t agree with your criticism of Merris, if the rest of the team showed his commitment, then we would be in a better position now. His work rate belies his age, and when he loses possession (as they all do) he recovers well.As for the game itself, well the pitch was bad, but same for both teams. The real difference was simply that Whitby were more up for it than Boro, and it showed, even with the massive Boro support . Obviously their manager was aware of our goal threat, Walshaw and Coulson and nullified it with man -marking., and took advantage of the lack of pace in our defence.I thought the Whitby right fullback had both strength and pace, and their skipper Hopson stood out in midfield. Perhaps when considering new faces we should look Northwards where our most memorable players (Football league) originated from.

Very worrying that the Manager does not know what is happening to us. Perhaps a start would be to analyse what we were doing well when on our winning streak as opposed to recent performances. I think he used a hammer to crack a nut by bringing in several midfield players after Dean got injured. He seems to be wholly focused on making changes and bringing in additions in that area of the pitch and remains steadfastly resolute ( except for forced absences) to keep the front and back the same. I can only think that he sees the midfield as the ‘problem?’ I, personally, did not see any reason to start meddling to such an extent when we were doing so well, but then I suppose that’s why I’m not a manager.

Posted: 2/1/2019 at 10:21:31, 154 views. In reply to 'Re: Loss at Whitby'

We’re on a very very poor run, good job there are points in the bank as we are relegation form. What is extremely worrying is that we have stopped creating chances. We didn’t have a single clear cut shot on target in the 2nd half yesterday and as a team we have run out of ideas, even more so when we go behind and the heads go down. Confidence is shot, the players look shit scared to be honest and it’s up to the management to change the mentality but i’m not sure they know how.

I recommend everyone read’s Leon Scott’s tweet from yesterday when someone asked him why he never played like that for us. His reply " Trust, belief and respect all play big factors in players performance and attitude"

Makes you wonder what the hell is going on behind the scenes, especially when new players are brought in and with all respect to them, aren’t an improvement.

Sounds like we were deservedly beaten today, but that’s now 17 goals conceded in the last 8 league games.

When you’re shipping an average of more than 2 goals a game you ain’t gonna pick up many points (and please, don’t anyone tell me it’s because Gooda was missing today - because he’s played in most of those games).

Woeful all round. by Aylesbury Seadog

Posted: 1/1/2019 at 16:30:03, 183 views. In reply to 'Agreed'

It was more of the same today. Whitby Town were nothing special, but took the lead in the first half and scored a softly awarded second-half penalty.

The referee was shocking: Boro players fouled and even stamped on in one case - the latter being completely ignored by the permanently smirking official. Do they just get anyone off the street in Whitby to officiate the match?

We should have got back into the game late on but Coulson fluffed the penalty. Nevertheless, by then Boro heads had gone down and Whitby could have made it three late on when they struck the post from range.

Conditions for away supporters were pretty bad, with access being across a muddy stretch of land, and there were just three very rundown cheap and nasty plastic portaloos for over six hundred visiting fans!

In summary, something drastic needs to happen. Quickly.

I honestly don’t see the worries that some people have with the current state of the team and the fact we haven’t won 25 of our 24 games so far, without letting a goal in, without the ball being played forward once in the air, with Kittrick making 6 substitutions per match. Some of you need to calm down, take a deep breath and look what we have in front of us.

One year ago, I know I would have settled for being promoted that season, then in a play-off position going into a New Years Day away match at Whitby with 600+ tickets sold. Be thankful for what we have chaps and chapesses.

ha ha cheers.

Im just frustrated that its our team and we should show it unconditional love, just like you should your kids. We are in a completely different situation to a privately owned club where we can shout at the owners if things aren’t going right, we are the owners so we are effectively shouting at ourselves when things don’t go right. Leave it up to the board to make difficult decisions.

The fans should show nothing but 100% support and positivity, no matter what. If we keep losing then no doubt the right decision will be made, but we should go up to Whitby on Tuesday and be nothing but very vocally supportive of all players and management. We could make a right racket up there. What wold you rather play football in front of? Fans who are going to groan and shout at every mistake, or ones who pick you up no matter what.

We should always try and support the team on the pitch but alternatively surely this should be the place where we express (positive and negative) opinions? Nothing wrong with your opinion about the season and where we are (a lot of basic truth in it) and I’m quite happy with where we are in the league, I’m not that happy with how we are playing ( I wasn’t when we were clear at the top of the table either). The two things are different and different people will give different weight to the two things. Obs if top of league and playing well then we’re all happy (probably).

Nothing at all for us to cheer about looking at those results.

Not much seems to be going our way at the moment. Hopefully the start of 2019 and the Whitby game will see a change in fortunes.

But for me we’re playing for 5th anyway. The current top 4 will no doubt fill those positions in some order or other, and any team out of us, Basford, Gainsborough, Matlock, Buxton and maybe Hyde will take 5th. So arguably Basford losing was good for us.

Yes but we’ve still got 18 games in which to do it. If we can go on another winning run anything is possible.

Why ? by Stepney Seadog1 1

Posted: 28/12/2018 at 15:01:08, 202 views.

The players must obviously feel the effect of the poor results in the same way as the supporters. Looking at the table and trying to assess why the slump it becomes apparent that our best results were mostly playing teams now in the lower half of the table, and now that we are playing the better teams our performances have slumped. One other factor is IMO the loss of Max Wright, as not only did he score goals, but his pace and passing gave our two front men the space they are not having now. The logic being that if the ball is in the opponents half…..they won’ score. Involving the goalkeeper as a defender, will always be risky, South Shields, whilst not up to last seasons ability, put us on the back foot constantly, and got their rewards. I personally pre season would have settled for mid table, so let us all get behind the lads and give them our support whether winning or losing

Makes some kind of sense, Killock was pushed into full-back role in early games (wasn’t very good) but hasn’t had much run at CB whilst both Bailey Gooda and Burgess have made clangers. One for the manager to deal with.

Too good to be not getting a game.
Cadman is quite happy to be the Scape goat all the time when actually one of our better performers. Not Killock. Tell KitKat where to go with his favourites.

I can’t imagine that any player is “quite happy to be the scapegoat “ it’s widely known that Cadman likes it at Scarborough and takes his chances when he actually gets them. Everyone (except the Manager it seems) appreciates his efforts, mentality and talent. But other than doing what he does, it’s difficult to overcome something that has no sound reasoning except a personal preference, especially when it is the manager’s. When doing everything he can and is still out of favour, for him, it is what it is. I commend him for this because like Killock, I would not want to see a good player leave our club.

I rate him. We now need him as Bailey has a ban looming.. Going on to Cadders, he should be one of the first names on the team sheet every week. Everyone thinks so except Kittrick. He happily plays Forrester, Lofts or Brooks by ahead of him.. He is the manager and I have to respect his decision but I struggle, like most of us to understand it. I struggle to get the Johnson selection too. He may turnout to be decent in time but not yet. I think reality is beginning to set in.. We are a top eight team only. That is a decent first season. Great start but the better teams are showing us exactly where we are.. It will get better but that will take a number of players out with the same coming in.

As long as he is available I would expect Cadman to get a run in the team from here on in. Also Killock will get his chance once Gooda is suspended.

I am also not sure why anybody would be giving up on the play offs at this stage, we could easily have been out of sight by half time vs south shields, and there’s plenty of football left to be played this season.

Golden gamble yesterday by Peasholm

Anyone know the golden gamble number yesterday, we couldn’t hear it on the far side of the ground. I didn’t see the board go round the ground but I might have missed it. Guess it was claimed but wouldn’t mind knowing.

Wonder if it would be possible for it to be put on the Twitter feed when they announce the attendance for future games.
Thanks.

I understand you’ve signed Ryan Watson, who used to play for us. Had a couple of spells wi’ the Celtic. He’s better than your other recent signings, from what I gather. A player who doesn’t appear to do much in a game (but IS more effective than you think) then WALLOP! - hits a 30 yrd screamer into the top corner.

Check out footage from our play off final win. Watto scores the 3rd goal - a typical strike of his.

Is Leon Scott a former safc man? I seem to recall the name. He was part of a very dirty/nasty bunch playing against us yesterday.

We have signed him but not seen him yet. Possibly working back to fitness first.
Scott was with us this year until recently was let go as he seemed a bit ineffective.
Whitby will have to be careful, they are starting to get a bit of a reputation - especially with a youngish element of their fans.
