Hyde vs Shields - what do we want to happen? by Malton Seadog User: Malton Seadog

For me it’s away win, 100%. I don’t want to give up on the title, but it’s not the ultimate aim this season. Promotion is. If we can get a positive result at Ramsbottom, and Shields can beat Hyde, we would end the night 2 points AHEAD of Hyde, and with a game in hand.

If Hyde win and if we win, Hyde go top on GD, Shields drop to 2nd, and we stay 3rd, and nothing really changes.

I know it’s one game and in the long term one result might not affect that much, but Hyde haven’t lost at home this season, so a dent to their confidence wouldn’t be a bad thing. Like I said, it’s all about finishing in the top 2 for me, and if that means Shield do us a favour by beating Hyde and Bamber, I’m all for it.

Sensibly SS win is best, draw worth a bit of half-hearted wishful-thinking mind.

If we win at Ramsbottom I’d prefer a draw, if we drop points then I’d prefer South Shields to win and then us, Hyde and Bamber to fight it out until the “bitter" end!

Echo everything Matt said above. Most importantly three points for us then we will be 7 points above Bamber bridge in the race for the magic third place promotion spot, which looks more and more like that place will come from our division

Fully agree with ka114. As long as we don’t lose too many games to the end of season, Bamber is the one to keep an eye on, so good that they dropped points today against a beatable side. I’m pretty sure that the team who finishes 3rd in our league will also be promoted. So our 2 games against Bamber are critical. Having said all that, we must just look to our own performances and take one game at a time. Today against 3rd bottom Skem showed how easy it is to drop points against ANY team in this league. We deserved to win overall in the end but it could so easily have been a draw and the last 10 minutes we could easily see a goal coming from Skem. First half I thought they were poor but we allowed them into the game & 4th quarter they were playing well. Lets put today’s performance down to ring rust.

A draw for me by SW11

as it’s 2 points dropped by both teams, Shields not far enough ahead to want them to win at the cost of Hyde.

All of which is of little importance of course compared to what happens at Ramsbottom.

I’d like both teams to field ineligible players and have 10 point deductions

Anything but a Hyde win. Think shields will go up either way, so would rather Hyde drop some points to give us an advantage in the chase for 2nd.
Going to predict a draw.

A draw for me as I still think we should be thinking win the title. We are not that far away and Imho I think all three of us are going up anyway.

Look at it another way. Ignore what SS and HU get up to and just concentrate on maintaining, or bettering, our 2.31 ppg average.

Maintain that until the end of the season and Bamber Bridge are going to have to win 13 and draw 2 of their remaining games to match us. Given the teams they have to play that is possibly beyond them.

Even if it’s not BB challenging us for that 3rd spot, a run in of something similar would be required from other teams below them in that mini league.

Let’s concentrate on our results. We’ll either smash the 3rd place and be finely placed if there’s any bottling from above.

Just as when we played Prescot at home, I was fully involved in that game, and couldn’t really care less what happened in the South Shields v Hyde game as long as we won our game.

3rd place by Hungry Jose

In the battle for 3rd place, from outside our league - Hartley Wintney (2.04) are the next closest (based on Carslhalton winning their games in hand to go 2nd). If HW go at 2.5ppg for the rest of the season, we’d only need 2.0ppg to match them. To say nothing of the fact that anyone going on that sort of run would probably steal an automatic place of their own.

I’m convinced 3rd will be enough. As above, BB games are vital.

& both Shields and Hyde can drop points.
it’s ok to think about the future and settle for 3rd
but there’s nothing to stop us going up as
Champions. So don’t set your sights low.
I’m sure SK thinks we can win it from here on in.

I want us to go up as champions, therefore we need both shields and Hyde to drop points so a draw will do with a win for us on Tuesday

Yes, a draw is best. by Aylesbury Seadog

On a numerical basis it’s best for us - no points surge for either team allowing us to make the most of our game in hand. However, for us Bamber Bridge home and away is now crucial, and in my opinion could decide which out of us or Bamber will be automatically promoted.
