Finishing by Geoff hooley

Just watched deaceys post match interview. He says it’s all about the finishing. Could have sworn we had got a goal then threw 2 goals away
By some diabolical defending, it’s no good us scoreing then the numptys at the back gifting teams goals.

Yes but if our finishing had been better we’d have won 3-2. And anyway their goals were deflected. That being said we do desperately need Coates back.

Ah yes, we know we’ve got a hole in the bucket but just keep pouring more water in, no one will ever notice.

Take only 1 out of 5_6chances in 1st half and then they score 2. Like gaffer says 2 daft mistakes, us just poor very poor finishing. Take 50% of the chances we create and we will win 90% of matches simple.

After Tuesday’s game the problem apparently was “decision making” - today after dropping both main strikers it’s “finishing”

Last season no club in our division had a more prolific pair of goal scorers than Wally & Coulo

This season they do not look like the same players - I know they are both getting older but there must be more to it than that

Our defence is weak and always looks likely to concede which puts extra pressure on the front men as they must feel they need to convert every chance which comes along , and that in itself makes it more unlikely

Let’s be honest, at present for this division we are below average

So we’re making excuses for our highest paid players? Our most experienced players? They’re under pressure to deliver what they are paid to do?

In fairness, it wasn’t them that missed the chances. My concern is that things aren’t noticeably improving; build up play is excellent, but there’s no cutting edge, we try to walk it in. Defence is incredibly brittle, it was just too easy for a very limited team like Grantham to hit us on the break.

The frustration is that you can see we have some excellent individual players: Taylor, Spence, Brooksby, Davidson, Watson, Thomson all had good games yesterday. Particular mention for Dawson though, ran the show yesterday, looks twice the player we had last time out.

I’m not one for getting after managers, but you do have to ask why what is a decent squad isn’t performing much better.

nail on the head.tree .By the time we get it in the box ,there must be 14 players there or thereabouts.there’s that many bodies it’s like a pinball m/c.we don’t seem to have any body than put a decent cross in from either wing or from corners. Let’s apart from finishing let’s train for xxx and corners.😁

Here’s some stats that highlights how things are going.

We’ve played 19 competitive games so far this season. We’ve scored 21 goals in those games compared to 45 scored during the same period last season.

Coulo and Wally have scored just 9 goals between them.
At the same stage last season they had scored 25 goals.

In the 19 competitive games so far this season we’ve conceded 29 goals compared to 24 over the same period last season. Given that 5 of those conceded this season were away at a Conference North side (a fixture we didn’t have last season), then I’d say the defence is conceding roughly the same as last season.

So the stats show it’s up front where the main problem lies, not so much at the back.
